Hello again, Rotarians:

We will again have a social meeting next Wednesday, via Zoom, at 11:45 AM. The Zoom ID number is 462-136-8364 and Password is 056372, the same as last week. I hope you all saw the article in the paper last week on the “Cost of Freedom” hands sculpture we sponsored. Thank you, Duane Tappe for your continued work on this.

On May 6th we plan to have a regular club meeting, which will also be on Zoom, with a different ID and Password. In listening to today’s briefing from the Governor, there is a chance that restaurants will be open on May 4th. However, we do not know if Valentino’s has the room to accommodate us in a safe, social distancing, dining area. We also don’t know if they will actually be open for business. We should have this information by next week, and will post this in the Spoke.

There are a few items for us to discuss. First, the Salute to Business is rescheduled for June 30th. However, the pandemic will likely reduce the number of sponsor tables. It will also reduce the number of attendees who want to remain socially distanced. Please let me know if you think we should cancel this event or move forward with this commitment. Second, we have the opportunity to continue assisting with helping the Rotaract Club at UNL and their wheelchair project. If you want to send in a donation, send a check payable to the Lincoln East Rotary Foundation, to Wayne Casper at 6109 S 30th Street, 68516. The Foundation will then coordinate with Club 14 to get the money for the purchase of more wheel chairs. Next, if you would like to place your Happy Dollars into Polio Plus, feel free to send a check payable to the Lincoln East Rotary Club, to Dick Cumming at 2312 S 75th Street 68506.

Finally, we need to be working on our budget for the 2020 - 2021 Rotary year. If you know of an expense, or a project that needs funding, please let Dick Cumming and Sue Schuerman know about this.

Diapers for Low-Income Families

Lincoln YMCAs to Collect Diapers for Low-Income Families

The YMCA of Lincoln is partnering with the Center for People in Need to collect diapers for low-income families during a time when parents need help the most. Four Lincoln YMCA facilities (Cooper YMCA, Copple Family YMCA, Fallbrook YMCA and Northeast YMCA) will serve as drop-off locations for diaper donations throughout the month of April.

To participate, donors can drop their items at any one of four YMCA locations. Each donation point will have bins by their front doors each Tuesday and Thursday from 10 a.m.-4 p.m., during the month of April (April 28 and 30). The diapers will be distributed by the Center for People in Need to families most in need of these donations. Please note that there is a more urgent need for larger diaper sizes (4, 5 & 6) but all diaper sizes will be accepted.

World Immunization Week is April 24-30

As scientists work to find a vaccine for the new coronavirus, we can do our part to keep our communities healthy by helping Rotary spread the word about the importance of vaccinations during World Immunization Week, 24-30 April.

Please keep the following Rotarians in your prayers and thoughts: Mike Carr, Gene & Barbara Roth, and Dale Lloyd. We should continue to keep all of our EMT's and first responders, hospital doctors and nurses, supermarket clerks, restaurant workers laid off or furloughed and waiting for unemployment, all those who are currently unemployed, human service organizations who still are open to serve thoe poor/homeless/hungry, funeral home workers, churches, airline employees, hotel employees, gas station and convenience store workers.
