Kurk Shrader gave us the background about the Bess Streeter Aldrich, mother, wife, teacher, business woman and author. Bess Genevra Streeter was born February 17, 1881, in Cedar Falls, Iowa, the last of eight children born to James and Mary Streeter. Bess graduated in 1901 from Iowa State Normal School, now known as the University of Northern Iowa, and taught for four years. She returned to Cedar Falls and worked as Assistant Supervisor at her alma mater, receiving an advanced degree in 1906. She married Charles Sweetzer Aldrich the following year. Charles Aldrich graduated with a law degree from Iowa State University and had been one of the youngest captains in the Spanish-American War. Following the war, he served for years as a U.S. Com missioner in Alaska.
The combined Rotary Clubs of Lincoln will be honoring on Tuesday, October 26th TMCO (Total Manufacturing Company) as their 2021 "Salute to Business" honoree. TMCO is a second-generation business that specializes in contract metal manufacturing. It was founded in 1974 by Roland Temme and employs more than 200 people. It is being honored by the Rotary Clubs for its innovation and contributions to the community.
The award will be presented at a luncheon at the Lincoln Marriott Cornhusker Hotel. Doors will open at 11:30 am and the luncheon will be served at 12:00 (Noon). The public is welcome to come and the cost is $35.00 per person.

Thanks goes out to Mike Ahrens for make a concrete base for the Veterans Hands and donated his time, and money to get this done. Thanks to Tammy, the artist that created the Hands for touching it up donated her time to get it repaired. It now has a permanent foundation to sit on and a place to welcome all Veterans.
We will be visiting three different locations in the next few weeks. Please let us know your preference so we can make an informed final decision regarding our new meeting location. We will be visiting each of these three location for 2 weeks to see how we like the set up and if it meets our needs. They are as follows:

October 27 and November 3: The Watering Hole - 8300 Northwoods Drive

My father was a medic during WWII. He never talked much about his experiences there, but I did hear a few. Maybe someday I will discuss them with you. He was on a troop ship on the way to North Africa when I was born, and did not return to the States until after my second birthday. I have hanging on my wall a telegraph dated June 21, 1943 addressed to him that says,”Derald was born at 7 pm on June 20 Baby and I OK. Love Dorothy”. I wondered why he would not tell me more of his battle experiences. Then, just a few days ago I read an article written by an Army medic. He talked about filling the hole in a soldier’s leg with gauze to curtail the bleeding. The soldier screaming with pain, but necessary to prevent the leg from having to be amputated. He related that many times as he was treating the wounded warriors, he would be asked “Am I going to die?” And too many times the truthful answer was “Yes”.
The Rotary Blood Drive is finally over. The final number of donations is 28 donations of which 9 came from Lincoln East Rotary Club. THANK YOU TO ALL THAT PARTICIPATED! Wayne Casper and I will now make the donations to the R.I.Foundation in the name of the donors.
Jami Kassebaum, the Community Blood Bank representative wrote to me "25 donors is what our typical average size blood drive is. This was very successful and we would love to host another donor month with you in the future. Thanks so much!"

Even with the vaccine, we continue to keep all of our teachers, school officials, and students, EMT's and first responders, hospital doctors and nurses, supermarket clerks, restaurant workers laid off or furloughed and waiting for unemployment, all those who are currently unemployed, human service organizations who still are open to serve those poor/homeless/hungry, funeral home workers, churches, airline employees, hotel employees, gas station and convenience store workers.
If you know of any of our members you would like for us to mention who are ill or need prayer, please let Greg know and we will put it in the SPOKE.
