President's Message

As we begin a new Rotary Year, it’s time for a little strategic planning for our Club.  We had an excellent meeting on the 5th with members providing suggestions on programming for the future.  At our next meeting we’ll distribute the Rotary Club Health Check to identify our club’s strengths and areas that need improvement.  Join us in deciding where we’d like the club to be in 3-5 years.
Board Meeting
There will be a Board Meeting at Valentine's, Wednesday, August 12th starting at 10:30 - 11:30 AM.  Regular meeting will follow at Noon.  Be on time, because Val's will have to let us in.  Either Sue or Gene will be greeting you at the door.  Don't forget to wear your mask.

Meals on Wheels

I love serving Meals on Wheels.  I get to go into the many nooks and crannies of Lincoln, see elegant homes, beautiful yards and neighbors and meet elderly folks in need of a warm meal.  Most of the homes are decent and most folks are grateful for the service. Until lately, I would hurry to deliver the meals so that none would be late.  However, a week ago, Greg Schnasse commented in our club meeting that he liked to engage the folks in a conversation, because the social benefits were as important as the food.  He has a point. Now, Greg is a talker and I can’t compare to his gift of gab, but I did start to asks folks how they were doing and this brought back a brief response that seemed appreciated.

Jesus said that “man does not live by bread alone,” and although he had something different in mind, I believe we all need social interaction for our well-being.  Whether this brief interaction, does any good or not is open to question, but it certainly can’t hurt.

Therefore, I’m going to continue on this course.  I mentioned a few months ago the importance of Rotarians coming together to provide the social interaction we all need.  So, let’s keep up our good work in doing so.

Chuck

This Rotarian enjoyed being Santa Claus at Christmas time.  He loved organizing the SumFun Picnic.  He always had a smile on his face, and a greeting for whoever came to visit Lincoln East Rotary.  He loved his church and stayed active in Rotary and his church until the end of his life.

Please keep the following Rotarians in your Prayers and Thoughts:

Barry Stelk -  started chemo this week.
Mike Carr - Greg contacted Mike, but got his voicemail and left a message.  Continue to keep him in his prayers as Mike works through his health problems.
Al Burdick - Shortly after his quadruple heart bypass, he experienced severe right knee pain, which has continued to the present time; then he experienced severe pain in his lower right portion of his back, which has also continued to the present time.  He is seeing a neurosurgeon and has an appointment on August 14th.

We should continue to keep all of our EMT's and first responders, hospital doctors and nurses, supermarket clerks, restaurant workers laid off or furloughed and waiting for unemployment, all those who are currently unemployed, human service organizations who still are open to serve those poor/homeless/hungry, funeral home workers, churches, airline employees, hotel employees, gas station and convenience store workers.

If you know of any of our members you would like for us to mention who are ill or need a prayer, please let Greg know and we will put it in the SPOKE.
