March 8 - T. J. McDowell, Jr.

T. J. McDowell spoke to Lincoln East Rotary about his experiences growing up in Lincoln, NE.  Before he spoke about those experiences’ he thanked the Rotary Club for all they do in the community.  T. J. was born and raised in Lincoln, NE.  Attended Lincoln High School, Nebraska Wesleyan University and the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.

Bob Michl - Director of the OLLI

Bob Michl, Director and Instructor for OLLI at the University of Nebraska told us about OLLI.  Bob taught for 35 years in public schools.  Received all his degrees from the University of Nebraska.  He told us that a lot of the instructors are volunteers and that there is only four staff members that OLLI is operated under.  There is an Advisory Board, Standing Committees, a Curriculum and Sub-committees that comprise OLLI.

Rotary Reflections
Napoleon Hill has stated that every well-built house started with a definite plan in the form of blueprints.  I’d suggest that every well-built service club is guided by a blueprint.  What is LERC’s blueprint?  Do we have one?  What do we measure our actions, activities and goals against?  A blueprint is simply a map to guide the club’s journey.  It helps prioritize the important tasks on our agenda.

District 5650 Conference 
Pre-conference starts on Thursday, March 30 with a performance by a man who is changing the world through music.  YoY o Ma, a renown cellist, will be performing at the Lied Center for Performing Arts.  Rotary will be given a special rate to attend.
 
Friday – March 31:
 
“Rotary’s Got Talent” social and performances by our own renown 5650 stars.   There will lots of fun and an opportunity to raise funds for polio.  There will be tours of Nebraska Innovation Campus, which will be the home of 2023 District Conference. The tours will be held before the Friday social event.
 
District Conference – April 1: 
 
Presentations will be by:  Chancellor Ronnie Green, Welcome to UNL; Dr. Brady Beecham, former RYE and Ambassadorial Scholar; Dr. Jeffrey Gold, Chancellor UNMC, World health challenges; NE Senator Tom Brewer, Stories from Ukraine; Director Tony Goins, NE Econ. Dev., Building Community.
