Rev. Thomas Dummermuth said that he was trying to figure out what to do when everyone was told to Stay Home, Stay Safe, and Stay Healthy in March 2020. That is when the COVID-19 pandemic begin. Trying to keep people connected was not easy. You can try calling people, but that is not the same as being connected face-to-face. Even the churches was having to figure out how do we "do church." Pastor's started embracing technology and learning what it could do to keep their congregations connected in some format. Tom said it seemed that something was still missing.

Lincoln East Rotary Club

It has been my privilege to be a mentor for the RYLA program this year for Clarissa Tan. Clarissa was a junior at Lincoln East (now to be a senior). She is on their debate team and they placed at State. She also performs with the Lincoln Youth Orchestra. It has been really hard both mentoring and being an attendee, as Clarissa has, this year as we were not able to get together. However, that period of time is thankfully over and Clarissa has graciously agreed to join us for our 6/23/21 meeting. She’ll tell us about RYLA and changes in the program this year and about her experiences with RYLA.

Secretary, Jerry Christensen, suggested an installation ceremony for our new President-Elect, Darrel Huenegardt. I thought that was a great idea. Darrel will be away the 30^th but he’ll be able to attend the meeting on the 23^rd so we’ll do a short but hopefully very nice and very welcoming installation ceremony that day. I hope you can all come to welcome Darrel and support him in our rebuilding year.

Even with the vaccine we continue to keep all of our teachers, school officials, and students, EMT's and first responders, hospital doctors and nurses, supermarket clerks, restaurant workers laid off or furloughed and waiting for unemployment, all those who are currently unemployed, human service organizations who still are open to serve those poor/homeless/hungry, funeral home workers, churches, airline employees, hotel employees, gas station and convenience store workers.

If you know of any of our members you would like for us to mention who are ill or need a prayer, please let Greg know and we will put it in the SPOKE.
