Progress in Zambia 2022

The Zambia Project was started in 2003 as a Lincoln East Rotary Club project by Dr. Chuck Erickson.  It eventually became a District Project and continues to yet today added many new projects as it continues to grow.  It has received not only several District grants, but Rotary International's global grants.  There has been several individual or organizations who have also help fund some of the mini projects within this larger project.

This map shows the area that is covered by the Zambia Project.  Dr. Chuck Erickson gave Lincoln East Rotary Club members and visitors a review of the projects that have been going on in Zambia since this project was started in 2003.  These projects include nutrition, creating gardens, and making boreholes, dams and canals for water.

Nutrition -- Children who do not receive a nutritional diet in the first 2 years of life, will not obtain maximum adult capacity.

Gardens - Because of the extreme lack of water the yield for maize is often very poor.  Improved farming methods are needed for the local farmers.

Water - Women and girls walk many miles to access water.  Commonly the water is polluted animal contaminants and dirt.

President Message
I ran across a poem the other day by Grace V. Watkins entitled “A Glow Remains”.  It reminds me of what a Rotarian’s legacy is.

Something from the Past

This is one of the finished benches that LERC members did in 2020.  The last time that we were able to help the Lincoln Parks & Recreation with painting benches and tables. Hopefully, we can get back to doing this once again soon.

Even with the vaccine, we continue to keep all of our teachers, school officials, and students, EMT's and first responders, hospital doctors and nurses, supermarket clerks, restaurant workers laid off or furloughed and waiting for unemployment, all those who are currently unemployed, human service organizations who still are open to serve those poor/homeless/hungry, funeral home workers, churches, airline employees, hotel employees, gas station and convenience store workers.
If you know of any of our members you would like for us to mention who are ill or need prayer, please let Greg know and we will put it in the SPOKE.
