Bob Evnen , Secretary of State for Nebraska talked about "Election Security" to the members of Lincoln East Rotary Club. Bob was talking about the 2020 election.
Bob told us that a ple of pre-voters was taken and it showed that 47% of those who responded thought likely or highly likely the election was stolen. As Secretary of the State for Nebraska, Bob is the chief officer for all our elections.
Bob said that since we don't have kings, monarchy, or other type of rulers to run our government, we as individuals have the opportunity to elect whom we want to govern our country. There were several states (Pennsylvania, Georgia, Michigan, Wisconsin and Arizona) had problems because they did not following their own state laws for elections. Nebraska had no problems because we followed our election laws.
Bob mentioned that his office looked at everything and all things was fine. He still hears people say that the election was "stolen" or people complaining about it being stolen. They don't complain to his office, so he cannot do any investigation on those complaints. Some people think we should get rid of the election machines and count ballots by hand because they think those machines are hooked up to the internet. None of these machines are hooked up to the internet. The machines used for counting the ballots are checked three times before they are even used prior to an election. Once these machines do count the ballots the information is sent to "flash drive" to be downloaded onto the Election Commission website. It is true you don't have control of a ballot when it has been requested from someone who wants to do mail-in ballot. If you want control of that ballot you either have them come into the Election Commissioner's office and do an early ballot or they go to a poll to vote. When you go to a poll you are checked in by a Clerk poll worker(s), handed a ballot by a Judge Poll worker(s) and go to a private booth to vote and return that ballot back to the Judge Poll worker to be placed, in front of you - the voter, into the ballot box.
There are several bills in the current legislature that deal with voter fraud and those are: 1) Voter ID; 2) Winner take all; 3) Private money (Money that has been sent to people running for office from a private business person, especially those living in the blue collar states); 4) ballot harvesting and 5) drop box elimination. Some of these bills, if passed, could help keep our elections safer and help us elect those individuals we feel can make a difference for our state and our country.
