Rabble Mill

The Bay is a home for misfits in Lincoln, NE – a safe place to go, people who care, and something to do.  The Bay is a 501c3 nonprofit.  The Bay was found in 2010 by Michael Smith and on December 31, 2017 became a program of Rabble Mill through a merger with Hear Nebraska. Its programs aim to help young people dream bigger. 

 

The Bay’s mission is to provide economically and culturally disadvantaged youth with the belonging and purpose they need to grow and reinvest in their community.  The Core Values for The Bay is to dream differently; celebrate each other; honor relationships; solutions not problems; people over policy; and it’s supposed to be fun.

 

Hear Nebraska was found by Andew Norman in 2010.  Its mission meaningfully connects and engages fans, artists and communities through music, journalism, education and events.  Hear Nebraska’s vision is to strive to make the state a globally recognized cultural destination.

 

The Bay has Nebraska’s only indoor skatepark is open to the public.  This skatepark is 12,000 sq. ft. and is open seven days a week and boasts programming that ranges from Famme Skate Night to large scale, annual skate competition.

 

The Bay offers Art which focuses on practical skills in high-demand fields, such as digital art, content creation, computer science and gaming, all while keeping a focus on culture and community.  Its art program is set up on a choose-your-own-adventure model, where individuals are encouraged to carve their own paths based on their interests.  The instructors and volunteers help guide them to learn more about digital arts-based programming.

The Bay is one of the state’s only dedicated, all-ages concert and performance venues, providing an amazing experience for musicians and music lovers of all ages.

 

Bay High is a high school focus program that creates upward mobility and opportunity for young creators.  It’s created in partnership between the Bay (a program of nonprofit Rabble Mill), Lincoln Public Schools and Nebraska’s business and charitable community.  Currently, there are extremely creative, talented, and passionate kids needing an alternative way to learn, grow and succeed.  They need a seat at the table.  Bay High will prepare and equip students to be innovators in the progressive world of entrepreneurship, emerging technology and content creation – rooted in the creative disciplines of skateboarding, music, fashion and digital art.  We believe this next generation of students has the power to be the trailblazers for the future of digital new media and the next leaders in our local communities.

 

They are hiring some of their young people who have been at the Bay to help check-in the newer kids, how to be able to know what to do when they do get hired at a regular job.  The Bay High School will teach those kids what they will need to know to get good jobs in the future.
