June 30th was an opportunity for Lincoln East Rotary Club to welcome seven new members and install their officers for 2023-2024. There were several spouses, friends and our 2023-24 District Governor, Kathryn Schubert from Omaha Suburban, along with Assistant District Governor, Clay Ehlers to help welcome these new members and install our President, Andrew Mwape. Andrew is a Ph.D. student in Applied Climatology at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, and his home is in Zambia.Some of the highlights was a moment of silence for our 2022-23 President, Jerry Christensen who passed during his term. Clay Ehlers presented certificates of appreciation to those who filled in as “Acting President” during this Rotary Year. Certificates of appreciation was presented to those who served on the 2022-2023 Lincoln East Rotary Board. Clay had fun trying his best to pronounce the names of some of our newest members. Six of the seven new members are students at UNL working toward a higher degree and are from Africa. Our seventh member, is the son of Jerry Christensen, and we are glad to have Eric join the same club his father served very well.
The new members each received their pin by their sponsors, plus the Four-Way Test card, Challenge Coin, Certificate of Membership, and got to choose either a Rotary Cap or Rotary T-Shirt. After the installation service, we enjoyed a meal prepared by Mercy Mwape. Many of the new members helped serve, along with some of the current members or their spouses of Lincoln East Rotary. A wonderful evening of fun, fellowship and good food.
