“If you’re not good, I’ll take you to the Doctor and get you a shot”

It’s not surprising that kids fear going to a doctor and some adults do also, because of unpleasant experiences in their childhood.  For some this may translate into folks refusing to become vaccinated for common diseases. For example, a good share of Americans failed to have influenza immunizations, in spite of the fact that health professional strongly recommended them.

There is another group that we call anti-vaccers, those that don’t believe in any immunizations.  Fortunately, in the past this is a small group of folks and enough of us are immunized to keep diseases such as measles to a few limited outbreaks.

Around 40% of US citizens state that they will not get the Covid-19 vaccine, in spite of the current pandemic killing thousands of Americans.

The call now is to be patriotic and get the shot when if becomes available.  As Rotarians, we say the Pledge of Allegiance at our weekly meetings strongly suggesting we are truly patriots.  Also, Rotarians as a group believe in immunizations in view of our support of Polio Plus, and other immunization programs.

One of the 4 Way tests is “will it beneficial to all.”

Rotarians have compassion for the poor, the elderly and others that are in need.

What I’m getting at is that because of the above, Rotarians should take the lead in promoting the Covid-19 vaccine.  We should be models by getting the vaccine ourselves, encourage our families to do likewise and make statements to our friends and the media to do so.

I would go so far, as suggesting that our Club should produce purchase bumper stickers stating that Rotarians encourage folks be immunized with the Covid Vaccine.

What do you think?
