Since our speakers were unable come, Duane Tappe shared with us about his little trip to South Dakota, parts of Nebraska Sandhills and back to Waverly, NE where he lives. Duane visited an Indian reservation where a boy’s and girl’s facility was recently built in Mission, SD. He also visited another Indian reservation in South Dakota. On the way back to Nebraska, they came from Valentine through Thedford, NE where the Nebraska Sandhills are located. Duane said it was a beautiful drive and lots of cattle. Many of the ranches in the Sandhills are very much hidden from sight. They are usually located way in the back from the roads.
They also made their way to McCook, NE where Duane once lived and was a member of that Rotary Club. He wanted to see the Heart Sculpture that he sponsored that was located in McCook. It is located in the downtown area. This sculpture depicts the Sandhills and ranches in that area. Duane planned to attend Rotary Tuesday, but didn’t realize that August has five Tuesdays, therefore he met a friend and they had lunch at a very renowned restaurant. On the fifth Tuesday, the Rotary Club of McCook has a social event.
Upon arriving back home in Waverly, NE, Wayne and his wife attended their grandson’s football game on the new turf covered football field in Waverly. Thanks for sharing your adventure with the club.
Wayne Casper shared with us a video about how Bryan Health helped with the Community Blood Bank when Dale Johnson, KFOR newscaster was hurt a few years back and needed blood. How people came to give back to the Community Blood Bank the many pints of blood that Dale needed.
