2017-06-19 Rotary Meeting Evening Meeting – Joint with Daybreak

Dan opened the meeting at 6:00pm
We sang O'Canada, which was followed by Rotary Grace.
Guest Speaker – Army Cadets Squadron 3068
  • Presented about their various activities this year including,
    • citizenship training and fundraisers including a fundraiser with the Camrose city police
    • Vimy 100 ceremony in Edmonton
    • Cold weather training
    • SALHRA european battlefield tour 2016 including Vimy Ridge, Beaumont Hamel, LochNagar Crater, Essex farm where John McRae wrote his poems
  • Concluded their presentation with thanks from the Squadron to Rotary for the financial support
Introduction of Guests:
  • .Eight different guests
  • There were lots of happy bucks, but no fines.
  • District Governor plans to visit August 8th
  • June 20th the executive meeting is scheduled for 5:15pm at Dawn's house
  • Reminder of notice of motion for Strategic Plan and Budget
  • Shirley presented a notice of motion on the Rotary Youth Exchange Recognition; planting trees in the Rotary Exchange Park at the site of the old ski hill
  • Budget is $3,100 funded with $2,000 from the environmental /Park committee budget and $1,100 from the Johnson Community Fund
  • Call for volunteers to help with the Rotary Youth Exchange building and installing kiosk, architectural work, and irrigation. Would like to have the first tree planted in July on behalf of Mikkel
  • Rotary Park Committee in discussion with the City of Camrose about building a picnic gazebo at a cost of $10,000 every year for four years if the CFEP funding of $125,000 from the Province doesn't come to fruition. Moved by Sheila for consideration
  • Sheila made a call for volunteers for "Martha's table" in July at the City Lights Church downtown, occurring every Thursday. Several members volunteered
  • Dan (El Presidente) announced they're looking for volunteers for the front reception table

  • While in Canada, has visited
    • Penticton, British Columbia
    • attended school in Camrose and joined the volleyball team, as well as the basketball team
    • Fall orientation with the other exchange students
    • Jasper ski trip
    • Tip Toe with Caribou in Yellowknife
    • Visited Hay River First Nations Reserve and made Dream Catchers at the Katlodeeche First Nations
    • Witnessed Northern Lights in Eden
    • Dog sledding in Yellowknife
    • Spring Conference
    • Edmonton Oilers Game
    • Banff Skiing
    • District Rotary Conference
    • Vancouver, Oilers game vs. the Canucks
    • Waterton
    • Drumheller to see the world's largest Dinosaur
    • Toronto to the Hockey Hall of Fame and a Blue Jays game
    • Went to RYPEN camp for Rotary Youth
    • Lastly a hiking trip with the University of Augustana
  • Dawn presented Mikkel with a farewell card & gift
  • Mikkel said thanks in every language other than Danish
