Jim was born and raised in central Iowa. He attended Iowa State University and finished his business degree at Simpson College in Indianola, Iowa. Jim spent over 45 years in the graphic arts industry as a principal in a paper distribution company and a paper converting operation. The digital transformation destroyed the paper business, and this allowed Jim to try some new things. He joined a Farmers Insurance agency a couple years ago which has been both challenging and rewarding. Jim's business adventures have allowed him to live in Oklahoma City, Dallas-Fort Worth, Des Moines, and even a short time in California. Kansas City is his favorite place! Jim is married to Melanie who is the controller for Blackstone Environmental Engineering, and they have two daughters. Gabby is their oldest, and is getting married this October. She is a graduate student at UMKC in the theatre/conservatory department. Ellie is a senior at Avila University, and is studying pre-med while playing basketball. Jim has coached youth girls basketball for over tens years. He enjoys attending high school and college games to see some of his former players compete. Jim currently serves on the church council at Salem Lutheran in Lenexa. His favorite book is the story of Dietrich Bonhoffer, a German pastor and anti-Nazi dissident. Jim's favorite vacation spot is Hawaii, and his favorite meal is eating Iowa sweet corn, smothered in butter, with fresh garden ripened tomatoes, grilled chicken, and a cold one (sounds yummy!). He will not be singing at karoake night as he was forced into retirement by his kids' embarrassment. |
