This Week: Tyler's House Tour
For those of you who expressed desire to take a further look into Tyler’s House, we will be meeting as a group Wednesday at noon on-site at its current location –5903 Johnson Drive (1/2 block from  our rotary clock).  The club is considering their request for grant funding to assist them in acquiring furnishings.

You can check out their website here:  tylershousekc.org

Their concept is to offer “a warm and safe after-school space—to meet our community’s young people where they are”. Hope you can join us!

Plan Ahead for Your Summer with Rotary
It’s hard to believe summer is nearly half over already!  We are happily returning to more normal Rotary gatherings and wanted to share some planning decisions for those who have been unable to join us recently.

We’re pleased to announce that we have officially changed our meeting location to Milburn Country Club (thank you Roger and Ed M. for your help with this transition).  Milburn is serving us plated lunches and charging only for food.  With no cost for the meeting room, we have more dollars to use for our charitable projects.  In addition, as we enter the new Rotary year, we have decided to hold 2 in-person lunch meetings per month at Milburn (the 2nd and 4th Wednesdays of each month).  This will also save our club money that we can use for other causes.

We are going to stop streaming meetings via Zoom for the time being.  If we need to revisit this later, we are easily able to start up again.  Please let us know if this is something you feel strongly should continue.  We have also decided to return to Rotary on the Road once per month and we are starting this week with a visit to Tyler’s House in Mission.  We hope you will join us to learn about this new project!

Finally, our plan for at least the next few months is to adopt a more predictable meeting calendar.  Our monthly plan is as follows:

First Wednesday:  Rotary on the Road

Second Wednesday:  In person planning session + board meeting @ Milburn.  Until we are back up and running, we will use this meeting for fellowship and planning.  We’d like to encourage everyone to attend and participate as we make plans to move forward post Covid.   We will also introduce “Stoney’s Corner”.  Stoney will provide an update on business happenings in the northeast corridor.

Third Wednesday:  Service project.   We are setting aside time each month for a community service project in lieu of a regular meeting.  These projects may fall on an evening or weekend.  We plan to announce these as soon as they are scheduled to allow as many as possible to help.

Already scheduled events:
Saturday, July 10th Mission Summer Family Picnic (6-10 pm):  beer and beverage sales with proceeds going toward Pints for Polio
Thursday, August 5th Mission Market (4:30-8 pm):  beer and beverage sales with proceeds going toward Pints for Polio
Friday, September 17th Harvesting Hope Fundraiser (5-7:30 pm):  benefit for Growing Futures @ Shawnee Mission Theater in the Park.

Fourth Wednesday:  Guest speaker + lunch in person @ Milburn

Fifth Wednesday if applicable:  Gather for lunch somewhere in Mission or social gathering after work
Because of the holiday in July and some events already on our calendar, we won’t follow the new plan exactly for the first month.

July looks like this:
July 7th:  no in person meeting.  Please mark your calendars to help us fundraise and promote Rotary at the Mission Summer Family Picnic on Saturday, July 10th from 5pm-dark.  Fireworks will follow our beverage sales.  We need all hands on deck to help with this event at which we will raise money for Polio Plus.

July 14th:  Installation Lunch @ Milburn.  Please join us as we pass the gavel to Brian, say thank you to our outgoing board members and officers, and welcome our newest board members and officers.

July 21st:  Stay tuned.  Planning in process!

July 28th:  Guest speaker and lunch at Milburn.  Board meeting to follow.

We hope to see everyone soon to kick off the new Rotary year!
Its Time To Party!

As we have been discussing, the Club board has agreed to have our club host beer gardens in Mission at two events coming up. This will be a chance to raise funds and visibility for the club in what we hope will be a really fun way!

I could use a couple of people who would like to map out with me how much beer and wine to buy and how many hands on deck we'll need. Please let me know if you'd like to help out with the strategy!

In the meantime, please save the following dates. We'll send out a Sign Up Genius for these after we establish the "shifts" that we need.

Mission Summer Family Picnic - Saturday, July 10
Broadmoor Park in Mission
6-10 p.m.
Live music, family activities, hot dog dinner, fireworks show. This is an annual event with a built in following, but alcohol sales is a new addition.

Mission Market - Thursday, August 5
Market Site on Johnson Drive
4:30-8 p.m.
Weekly market, with rotating beer garden hosts. We will be the first charitable/non-profit group to host!

If you have any questions, please let me know! Thanks for being willing to give this a shot!

Harvesting Hope Fundraiser

This year, Growing Future Early Education Center is hosting a "Harvesting Hope" fundraiser at Shawnee Mission Theatre in the Park. There will be live music, a craft market, dinner, beer, wine, games, a raffle, and more. There are opportunities for volunteer groups to help out at the event. We are targeting the 5:00-7:30 p.m. shift. This will be hosting the games, bar, running ice, selling tickets, etc.

I know some schedules will change between now and then, but they are asking for names of volunteers now. If you think you will be interested in volunteering, please let Emily Randel know and she will add your name to our volunteer form.
