Stories
Terry Geenes
Terry is the area director for KC Caring for Kids. She works closely with school districts providing trained adults to volunteer at Kansas City, KS schools.
Pancake Time
We need all hands on deck to pull off our pancake breakfast this Saturday. We created a Sign-Up Genius with shifts to stagger things a bit, so not everyone has to come at the same time. Please take a shift!

The club will be serving pancakes this Saturday, October 12, from 9-11 a.m. at the same site as last year - the Mission Market site - 5635 Johnson Drive.
Mark Your Calendars

World Polio Day is October 24th.

We are going to join the Shawnee Club at Transport Brewery on the evening of the 24th from 6 to 8 PM.  $8 for any 16 oz. beer with $5 going to PolioPlus.  Transport Brewery is located at 11113 Johnson Drive in Shawnee, KS.

We will also have our bucket on hand for contributions to PolioPlus.  Although not required, we ask that every person attending consider contributing $20 (or more) to the fund by placing your contribution in our bucket. This should be a fun evening for a great cause.

We will also be sending Mark Lieb off with a farewell pint at the same time.

Member Spotlight: Dahnika Short

Dahnika grew up in Topeka, Kansas. She graduated from Kansas State University (go Cats!) where she received her Bachelor's degree in Life Sciences pre-medicine. After graduating Dahnika joined the Peace Corps and spent 2 years in Moldova- a tiny, but lovely country in Eastern Europe. After 2 years in Moldova, she moved back to Kansas to attend nursing school. After graduating from KU School of Nursing she joined a family doctors office in Lawrence, KS. She got married to Hazen Short and the two eventually had baby Matilda (Tilly). Dahnika is now back in school at KU School of Law in Lawrence.

Dahnika doesn't have a ton of time for hobbies now with law school and the baby, but she still enjoys playing soccer, traveling, wine, eating, reading, and podcasts, and being outdoors. Her favorite place for vacation is anywhere (she really wants to go to southeast Asia), but her family's cabin in Westcliffe, CO is always special. Dahnika's favorite book is anything by David Sedaris, favorite movie is Fried Green Tomatoes (or Toy Story), and favorite recent TV show was the Chernobyl miniseries on HBO. She would sing "Bennie and the Jets" at karoake night, and her favorite food is a surf and turf combination (steak, raw oysters, scallops, etc. yumm).

Dahnika, Hazen, and Tilly in Puerto Rico this summer.
