Upcoming Events

We are still collecting soft lunch boxes for our friends at Hillcrest Transitional Housing - new or gently used. Please bring 1 or 2 to the next meeting to help us reach our goal!

Happy Birthday to us!

This Wednesday, November 10th we will celebrate our 75th birthday! The Club is hosting a special luncheon meeting at noon at Milburn Country Club to recognize its long history of community involvement and good standing in the community. Come celebrate with us!
Growing Futures Service Day
We were back at Growing Futures Early Education Center on Saturday, November 6. This time, we prepared the raised garden beds for winter, assembled giveaway bags with hygiene items, school supplies and food for their holiday drive-through coming up in December and assembled a piece of musical equipment that gave us fits! It was just a simple flower that children can hit with a mallet to make musical notes, but it turns out that everything hinges on it being assembled at the factory correctly! We prevailed, though!

Harvester's Food Drive
Rotarians were out early in the morning to help with the Harvesters Mobile Food Pantry event at Shawnee Mission North High School on October 30. The event takes place each fifth Sunday of the month and is drive-through with volunteers loading food items directly into vehicles.

Rotary District Conference
Rotary District 5710 Conference in Manhattan, KS was a great success. Happening Friday, October 21-23, it focused on fun, learning and service. There was a service project of preparing 1,000 emergency birth kits that will go to health care providers and mothers-to-be around the world. Each kit had the essential supplies including a bar of soap, plastic sheet, razor blade, umbilical cord ties, latex gloves and gauze pads. Many Rotarians working (and laughing) all at once assembly line style had the kits ready in about an hour. Each supply was counted out ahead of time to ensure no kit went out without all the essential items. It was a fun and meaningful project that addresses Rotary's Maternal and Child Health Area of Focus. There were great and inspiring speakers, grants training, and one note with special significance to one of our club members, Vickie Randel from the Lawrence Rotary Club received the Distinguished Service Award presented by The Trustees of the Rotary Foundation "in recognition of outstanding efforts to promote the Foundation's many programs dedicated to international understanding."
Plan Ahead for Rotary
First Wednesday of the Month:  Rotary on the Road

Second Wednesday of the Month:  In person planning session + board meeting @ Milburn. Until we are back up and running, we will use this meeting for fellowship and planning.  We’d like to encourage everyone to attend and participate as we make plans to move forward post Covid.
We will also introduce “Stoney’s Corner”.  Stoney will provide an update on business happenings in the northeast corridor.

Third Wednesday of the Month:  Service project. We are setting aside time each month for a community service project in lieu of a regular meeting. These projects may fall on an evening or weekend.  We plan to announce these as soon as they are scheduled to allow as many as possible to help.

Fourth Wednesday Month:  Guest speaker + lunch in person @ Milburn

Fifth Wednesday if applicable:  Gather for lunch somewhere in Mission or social gathering after work
Because of the holiday in July and some events already on our calendar, we won’t follow the new plan exactly for the first month.
