Roger was born in Upstate South Carolina (Gaffney) in 1949 on a small farm. His three children still live on the family farm! He comes from a long line of carpenters and worked his way up to being a commercial building superintendent building multi-story, multi-million dollar buildings. He has worked in lots of different professions including sales, golf professional (turtle Point, Kiawah Island SC) and even at a funeral home while in high school. Roger has three children, Shannon, Chad and Jamie (Jr), 16 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren and is married to Trudy Beason. They reside at 7400 Park Street, Shawnee, KS. He finally answered the “call” to be a minister and began a new career in 1999 at Hillside Christian Church (DOC), Wichita Kansas. He went back to college, graduating from Tabor College, Wichita Campus in December, 2000. HE continued his education graduating from Phillips Theological Seminary, Tulsa, OK in December, 2003 with a Master of Divinity degree. He was ordained by the Kansas Region of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) on October 4, 2004. He continued his education and graduated with a Doctor of Ministry degree from Phillips in June 2013. He has served churches in Kansas, Alabama and currently is the Senior Minister at Countryside Christian Church (DOC), 6101 Nall Ave, Mission, KS. Roger has officiated sports (high school, college, and semi-professional baseball as well as college and high school volleyball, football and basketball) for over 40 years. He loves to play golf and is currently an active member at Milburn Country Club, Overland Park, KS. He is also an avid hunter (Upland birds/ducks and deer) and is the proud owner of two Brittany “kids” (JT and Millie). Roger says that he “has found a home in the Metro area and he dearly loves being involved in Rotary.” The motto of “service above self” and the Four-Way Test have all found a place in his life as well as more than one of his sermons!
