Our next district-wide Rotary meeting will take place in just a couple of weeks, on Tuesday, November 17th. Big thanks to Chuck Udell for helping land this, but our speakers will be former RI President Barry Rassin and Past RI Director John Smarge, presenting about HANWASH (Haiti National Clean Water, Sanitation and Hygiene Strategy). HANWASH has the audacious goal of providing clean potable water and satisfactory sanitation to the entire nation of Haiti. With half of Haiti’s water and sanitation infrastructure simply not functioning, the country is an out-of-control recipient of aid funding – most of which sadly only focuses on creating relief by temporary fixes to the problems that exist, rather than building the systems necessary for the country to function. HANWASH is focused on a sustainable solution to resolve their water and sanitation dilemma and serve as a blueprint for other developing countries as well.
