Emily was born in Lawrence, KS and has lived in Austin, TX and Portland, OR. She's married to Andy Walker and they have one scruffy mutt named Alistair Gus who leads them on great adventures and who was the 2018 1st place four-legged finisher in the Leawood Rotary 5k! Emily has worked for the City of Mission for six years, she loves the variety of the work each day. Emily has recently discovered a love of gardening. She and Andy are slowly transforming their yard with more native plantings, a new rock wall, a tree swing, and whatever they dream up next! Emily can find fun traveling anywhere - most recently, she and and Andy spent a long weekend in Minneapolis, and loved the weather, the parks, the food, and most of all, the protected bike lanes that let you get anywhere in the city easily by bike. Right now, Emily is reading "The Moment of Lift: How Empowering Women Changes the World" by Melinda Gates - a very appropriate Rotary read that she fully recommends to all our club members! She'd be happy to sing just about anything at karaoke and is SO intrigued by a club night out with singing. Her top choice for a song might be "Baby, I Love You" by Aretha Franklin, or "That's the Night that the Lights Went Out In Georgia" by Reba McEntire. Emily would love a super-hero power that would enable her to wave her hands to help calm someone who was upset and help them see another perspective. Peace could come that way, she thinks. Favorite food: Chips, spicy salsa, queso, and guac. Yummm. Emily with Rotarian Dave Boone at the Wayside Waif Strutt-with-your-Mutt a few years back. |
