Help Us Meet Our Goal!
Growing Futures Early Education Center, serves more than 200 children and their families with Early Head Start and Head Start programs in Johnson County. The services they offer include comprehensive support services including health and nutrition services, onsite play therapy, parent education, mental health, medical and dental health, family support and engagement opportunities.

Shawnee Mission Rotary Club + Growing Futures
The Shawnee Mission Rotary Club has worked to support Growing Futures for many years. Whether it is garden clean-up, painting projects or fundraising, the relationship has been growing as our members are committed to help Growing Futures with their work to serve our kids. In 2020, we asked how we could help further. They wanted to know if we could help them purchase an onsite vision screening device.

Onsite Vision Screenings
The Federal Government requires Growing Futures to perform a mandatory vision screening within 45 days of the program semester start date. Normally, an onsite screening day required an outside provider to come to the center. If a family missed a school on a screening day, they would have to work to schedule an outside appointment. Having a screening machine onsite means greater flexibility and the possibility of screening during home visits. Anything to lessen the impacts of hassle in families' lives can translate to better growing and learning on the part of the children.

Help Us Close the Gap!
We are nearly there! We just need $2,238 dollars to raise all the funds required! The machine costs $6,470. We have $2,820 in Rotary District Grant Funds, $1,410 in Club Contributions. Can you help us close that gap? Donations of any size are greatly appreciated.

Supporting SMNHS Student Council
Our club board voted to use some of the money not being used for in-person programs during COVID-19 to support the Shawnee Mission North High School Student Council. They will be hosting a trivia night, and approached the club to see if we would provide prizes. We purchased gift cards at seven local businesses including:
  • Longboards
  • Urban Prairie Coffee
  • Mission Board Games
  • The Filling Station
  • Planet Sub
  • Ni Hao Fresh
  • Garage Door Apparel Co.
It's a win-win to share the important message of supporting local businesses with our students. Good luck at trivia!

ZOOM meeting videos
A new feature is available - ZOOM video recordings.

As of January 20 we are recording our meetings. All of our speakers have been very interesting - we just learned how to record, access, and make the recordings available AR smksrotary.org. The password to each is listed. We don't control it. Copy and paste is the easiest way to enter it!

The link is in the upper left corner of the webpage, just under meeting responsibilities. Have you checked lately?

Enjoy!
