Polio Presentation
World Polio Day is October 24th.

We are going to join the Shawnee Club at Transport Brewery on the evening of the 24th from 6 to 8 PM.  $8 for any 16 oz. beer with $5 going to PolioPlus.  Transport Brewery is located at 11113 Johnson Drive in Shawnee, KS.

Other local World Polio Day events:
In Topeka, KSNT will run a Polio-related story on Wednesday, October 23 at 5:00 pm.

A generous donor in the Shawnee club helped provide for an entire day of programming on Life 88.5 on Wednesday, October 23. The sponsorship will be dedicated to raising polio awareness on behalf of the Rotary Club of Shawnee. Be sure to give them a listen that day!

If you are close to Downtown Kansas City on the evening of October 24, be sure to check out the two End Polio Lightings that will be on display. The Marriott will display an End Polio Now message on its building and the Kauffman Center will be lit up in red.
Member Spotlight: Jim Mattes
Jim was born and raised in Franklin Boro, a suburb of Johnstown, Pennsylvania, 2 blocks from the largest blast furnace in the world. He has two sons, one in appraisal management and the other a TV producer (Ink Masters) in NYC. His wife Elaine has Debbie, Brian, and Curtis. Jim and Elaine have six grandkids, Clint and Lucy are in college while Calab, Graham and Carson are in Shawnee Mission schools. Lucy and Carson ring bells with Jim and Elaine at Walmart.

Jim has been a real estate appraiser since 1982, and he enjoys fishing, golf, and playing with his grandkids. His vacations have always been fishing trips with his brothers. His favorite book is Flags of our Fathers while is favorite movie is She Wore a Yellow Ribbon. Jim enjoys watching old time westerns on TV and he  describes himself as a freak for Polish food. He insists that we don't to hear his songs at karaoke night (I promise we do Jim!).
