November 25, 2020

This year Rotary is facing an unprecedented and unique time. With Covid hitting the world, a number of things have changed forcing all of us to make adjustments and changes that we may not necessarily want or agree with. Starting in March, Rotary was unable to host meetings for almost two months. We had to bring back our exchange student; Jacob Kociuba from Italy and send Megumi Suzuki home to Japan. This was much sooner than they and us would have liked.

Throughout this year we have collectively moved forward and looked for ways to stay relevant and continue our community activities.

  • Our membership has remained strong with two new members joining.

  • Rotary is hosting our regular Wednesday meetings (12:30) by Zoom. Our attendance is averaging over 20 members per meeting and we have managed to attract some excellent speakers. Thank you for the great job done by our teams.

  • Rotary has made adjustments to the budget with the limited revenues we have.

  • Rotary has continued to support our annual Awards.

  • Rotary has supported our Interact members and invited them to some of our activities to keep them motivated and included.

  • Rotary is focusing on completing projects (within our budget) that we started; Rotary Trail, Storage facility, Toboggan hill.

  • Rotary members have been participating in online conferences.

  • Rotary is keeping a strong profile in the community and in the news with articles in the local paper, instagram and on facebook.

  • Rotary has moved our Celebrity Dinner to October 2021.

As things change so does Rotary. New dates for our casino should be coming out soon. Meetings will continue on Zoom until we are able to resume face to face. Planning for the next year has already begun. Rotarians have much to look forward to as we show our strength and perseverance and are there when our community needs us most. Thank you to the great members of Athabasca Rotary. I am proud to be your president for 2020-2021.
