Susan is happy because she likes snow and we happily have lots of it
Andrew is happy that his son had his Bar Mitzvah a couple of weeks ago
Ray went to the Special Olympics breakfast last Saturday and it was a great time
Bonnie is happy that her Grandson just earned his green belt at karate
Craig is happy that his grandson is turning 13 next week, and won his first golf tournament at 12 years old in Arizona

December 31st is a Brockville Rifles New Year’s Eve Celebration – celebrating 150th anniversaries of the Rifles and Canada
 
Today at noon at the YMCA, Corbin (Vanier) is receiving his Peace medallion

Santa Claus Parade- ReMax is having an Open House during and after the parade and is collecting snowsuits for the Kinsmen club.
 
Reminders to everyone who volunteered to help out with the float and parade – it’s this weekend!! Friday at 5pm at Benson’s to help out with the float!
 
Christmas Kettles on December 3rd – 4 spots left for Canadian Tire and Superstore on that date.
 
Gala update - Friday September 15th 2017 is the date for the Rotary gala! Unique theme and venue are a closely guarded secret! Target is around $30,000 again.
 
Christmas Party is the 14th of December – remember to invite sponsors from golf and gala events. $35 per person.  Theme is not announced yet. Dinner at 6ish.  Invite coming soon. Cash or cheque – no credit.
Introduction of Speaker: Don DeGroot – Steve Weese, St. Vincent DePaul  Weekender Program for Kids.
The Saint Vincent DePaul is an international charitable organization, over 200 years old with over 14,000 members in Canada.   The Brockville Conference has been active for 3 years. It is run by Volunteers.
They have a drivers assistance program with CPHC , assist Loaves and Fishes, Making Play Possible, sending kids to YMCA day camp, Kayak camps, special benefits to St. Mary school for special ed students.
During January to October of this year they assisted 226 adults, 166 children,  for a total cost of $40,544.42.
New program is the Weekender Program for Kids.  Providing healthy foods to kids to take home on Fridays to fill the gap for kids who are going without typically. They send home fruit cups, granola bars, oatmeal, juice boxes, etc. It started with St. Francis and has grown to include St. Mary and Prince of Wales, St. Mark’s in Prescott, St. Joseph’s in Toledo. Hoping to add two more schools in January. The Superstore is working with the program, by giving a deal on the items. By the end of the school year they had provided 715 weekend packages.  It costs approximately $170 to sponsor a child for a year.
Several fundraisers include a Poor box at local churches one Sunday a month; spring dance;  BBQ; sponsorships, etc.

Funds raised to date $19,102
  • St. Francis Xavier Church Office (66 Church Street) will happily take personal donations from anyone – please include your name, amount and the Weekenders Program on the envelope to ensure it goes to where it should.  The Secretary there will take care of that.
