Call to order - President John Aukward called the meeting to order.
Pledge - Stacey McMichael
Blessing/invocation - Bob Anderson
Four Way Test - Chris Layton
Guests: President John introduced guests as soon-to-be inducted new member Mike Schuster and with him Michelle Redinger and John Hott, plus tonight’s speaker Chris Hall.
More than 40 members and guests, in-person or via Zoom, participated in the meeting, the highest number in nearly a year.
President John encouraged members to drop spare change into a jar at the food serving area for the MAC Center’s Meals on Wheels program.
Following dinner President-elect Bill Satterfield announced the April birthdays for Robin Evans, Kurt Schuster, Joe Stefursky, Hugh Livingston, Lee Evans, William Hall, George Vickers, and Gail Anderson. Selected for the birthday gifts of a free meal at an upcoming club meeting were Kurt Schuster and Hugh Livingston. There was a lively rendition of members singing Happy Birthday, the first such singing in months.
President John reminded members to register for next week’s special event. Tracy Fickett and Peter Shelbo will be cooking up some homemade chili served with cole slaw, cornbread, appetizers, and dessert. Starting at 5:30, join us for a night of old Western music, good eating, reduced priced drinks, and comradery. Come dressed in your best western outfit, because the best outfit goes home with leftovers, if there are any! Check your e-mail for the invitation and RSVP form and let Peter know if you’ll be there. It should how up as coming from the Rotary Club of Salisbury Punchbowl Invitation.
President John told members the Four-Way Test Award presentation and the club’s changing of the guard banquet will be combined for our June 24 meeting.
More than 50 persons attended whether in person or via zoom, the largest participation in months
Club Business
Mike Schuster, son of members Patti and Kurt Schuster, was inducted into the club as a new member. Mike in fact is a returning member, having been in the club for a while a few years ago. His mother put the Rotary pin on him. Mike is employed by Mountaire Farms in a human resources capacity. Club members welcomed him back.
Former member Mike Schuster rejoined the club and was presented his Rotary pin by his mother, club member Patti Schuster
Chris Hall, Vice President and Chief Business Officer for TidalHealth and a member of the Rotary Club of Wicomico County, spoke about last year’s creation of the TidalHealth organization. It was a combination of Salisbury’s Peninsula Regional Medical Center, Seaford’s Nanticoke Hospital, and Crisfield’s McCready Hospital, plus the acquisition of a number of medical practices. With 30 different sites in seven Delaware and Maryland counties, TidalHealth has 5,000 employees and $1.5 billion in assets. Chris spoke about the reasons for the medical system’s creation and re-branding. Among the strategic initiatives still being worked on are development of a large complex on the north side of Millsboro, a graduate medical education program, a physician recruitment and retention effort, a master facility plan, and brand equity. Following the presentation and questions and answers, club members had a better understanding of this hugely important institution serving our area.
