Members of The Rotary Club of Salisbury tonight heard about the Wicomico County government schools from first-year superintendent Dr. Micah Stauffer, a native son who attended the schools he now heads.
Dr. Stauffer highlighted some of the challenges the schools face. Notable are the high poverty rate of county students (62%), more than 10% for whom English is not their first language, the high volume of school office bad behavior referrals, the lack of racial diversity among the teachers, and financial challenges.
Nevertheless, the graduation rate is 83%.
