Dianna Smoot is the Director of Community Education at the Dallas Children’s Advocacy Center.

In this role, she oversees community outreach to raise awareness on child abuse issues as well as coordinates technical assistance for professionals in the areas of investigation, prosecution, and healing of these crimes. Her team works closely with child-serving agencies across our area to ensure that organizational policy and training are in accordance with best practice, and offers trainings to parents and children alike in an effort to better keep kids safe. Last year alone, the Education Team trained over 100,000 people on child abuse issues. .

Before joining DCAC, Dianna worked in a local school district for 13 years.

Meet Sophia, Scholarship Recipient 2019
Sophia Falies is a senior at Richardson High School.  Sophia has been a member of National Honor Society (NHS), Texas Association of Future Educators (TAFE), Girl Scouts of Northeast Texas, National Charity League (NCL), Thespian Society, Richardson Youth Leadership (RYL),  RISD Peer Helpers and RISD Teaching Internship Program throughout her high school years.  She spends numerous hours giving her time to different non-profits as part of these organizations.  She has been a Girl Scout in Troop 8828 for 13 years.  During that time, she completed her Bronze, Silver, and Gold award projects.  Her gold award project centered around teens mental health.  She created affirmation journals with resources and writing prompts to help teens use journaling in a constructive way.  She distributed more than 250 journals to a local junior high school and counseling centers.
Sophia is headed to Louisianna Tech University to study Elementary Education with an emphasis in Speech Pathology.  She also hopes to minor in Entrepreneurship so that she can some day open her own business that helps youth combat mental health issues. 
Steve Brown Approved for Membership
Steve Brown has been approved for membership by both the Membership Committee and the Board of Directors. Miki has proposed Steve Brown for membership.  She met him several years ago through a mutual friend and then as a client.  He has been very involved with the community through his HOA and is a Leadership Richardson alum.  He lives in the Heights and owns his own graphics company along with his wife Melanie.
