International Leadership School Tour

Richardson East,

Wednesday, January 22 is an important milestone in the history of our Club as we celebrate the charter and our first Interact Club at Karen Marx's International Leadership Texas High School (ILTGHS)!

This extraordinary event replaces our normal lunch and will be held at the school, 4413 N. Shiloh Road from noon to 1:00, with tours of the school immediately following.

RERC members are encouraged to make EVERY effort to attend and arrive early in order to be checked into the school - bring a picture ID.  Rotary District personnel will be joining us as well as leadership from the International Leadership Texas schools.

The serendipity here is that Rotary's motto is Service Above Self, and ILTGHS's is Others Before Self.  Going forward, we have the wonderful opportunity to mentor, motivate, develop confidence, and encourage a new generation of leaders and hopefully future Rotarians.

Dallas Children's Advocacy Center
On 8/7 we had the pleasure of listening to a very interesting speech by Dianna Smoot, Director of Community Education at the Dallas Children’s Advocacy Center.
In this role, she oversees community outreach to raise awareness on child abuse issues as well as coordinates technical assistance for professionals in the areas of investigation, prosecution, and healing of these crimes. Her team works closely with child-serving agencies across our area to ensure that organizational policy and training are in accordance with best practice, and offers trainings to parents and children alike in an effort to better keep kids safe. Last year alone, the Education Team trained over 100,000 people on child abuse issues.
2019 Scholarships

We finally have responses from all 6 of our scholarship recipients for 2019!

Special recognition should go to mentors Stephanie South and Hieu Huynh for not giving up on their students and pushing them to get all the information that we need to validate their scholarships.  At this point, all we are waiting on are some class schedules from a couple of students so that we can confirm that they are enrolled this fall but otherwise we have all the other documentation required from each student.

In addition to Stephanie and Hieu, Miki Mankin, Laurie Garvey, George McKearin and D Schieferstein are mentors this year and all have actively worked with their students to obtain the documentation and guide them through the process.

So, a special thanks to all the mentors from Byron, 2019 Scholarship Chairman.
