On September 28, 2019, the Southlake Rotary Club held its annual signature DPS Appreciation Day concurrently with Southlake’s DPS’ National Night Out. We welcomed our community in a display of appreciation for our first responders. We heard from John Huffman, Southlake's Deputy Mayor Pro Tem, as well as Southlake's Police Chief James Brandon and Deputy Fire Chief Kurt Hall (who is also a Southlake Rotarian!). Our Club’s President, Dana White, spoke to the gathered community, as well as our DPS Co-Chairs, John Pichler and Phyllis Catton. Meeting and mixing with our awesome First Responders, our Club provided complimentary food, face painting, a petting zoo, Carter’s Blood Bank for donating blood, and Child ID fingerprinting.
We are pleased to announce that we were able to raise a whopping $26,150 through our sponsors (listed below) which enabled us to confer $17,800 in scholarships to college-bound children of our police officers and firefighters. We also provided gift baskets of gift cards/certificates, each valuing over $3,000 to the Police Dept and Fire Dept's "Employee of the Year."
