If you would like to participate by running, walking or strolling, you can register here or fill out one of our brochures here and turn it in to Faron or Austin.
We're are changing things up a little at Topeka South Rotary and giving people an opportunity to sign up for the morning invocation each week, providing the ability to plan ahead and select a more personal invocation. We would love to have invocations from all faiths and walks of life. There's nothing that says it has to be a prayer, maybe it's a morning meditation, or thought for the day. And don't worry, if you don't want to come up with your own we have found some great additional ones from Rotary organizations all over the world.
If you would like to sign up online just click here or email Cassandra. In case you want to direct your invocation at the subject matter of the day, we've included in the online document a list of our weekly speakers. Red Badges, keep in mind this is a great way to check off one of your Blue Badge Requirements! There are 34 weeks left open for the board year. With over 100 members I have faith this will fill up quickly.
It's exciting to share that we have once again been awarded grant funding from District 5710 for Sole Mates! This funding is a 1:2 match of what we as members contribute. There are many ways you can donate monetarily – one is to purchase a ‘Music for the Sole’ CD featuring piano solos performed by Benjamin Zhang. CDs are available at club meetings and by contacting TSR member Baili Zhang. Another option is to throw some cash in the can on our weekly meeting morning buffet line.
This project cannot be effective without the volunteers that pair up with our little recipients at the shoe store. Please click on read more below to see the dates and contact Jamie, jamies@keystaffing.com, to sign up.
This program is an ongoing project for Topeka South Rotary to provide shoes for children of low-income families. In the fall of 2011, TSR partnered with Topeka area school districts to identify children in need of new shoes for our ‘Sole Mates’ program. Sole Mates addresses causes of conflict including poverty, inequality, and unequal distribution of resources. As a result of this program, TSR has been able to provide new socks and shoes for 1,603 children. The students who have been identified by their school in need of shoes are transported to Payless Shoes (1730 SW Wanamaker) via school transportation on scheduled shoe days. Once at the store, Rotarians pair up one-to-one with the students and assist them in having their feet measured and selecting a proper pack of socks and pair of shoes. Contact Jamie if you would like to read the full grant proposal and know how Sole Mates addresses five of the Rotary Foundation’s six areas of focus.
Thank you for putting new shoes on the feet of needy kids right here in our community!
