What are we raising money for? The Youth Crisis & Recovery Center will be a 24-bed, 24,000+-square foot facility that will accommodate children and teens experiencing an extreme mental health crisis or living with a substance use disorder. The facility will also house FSGCâs new integrated substance use treatment program tailored to meet the unique needs of adolescents.
Why is this important? At any given moment, more than 100 Kansas children and adolescents are waiting to be admitted to psychiatric residential treatment facilities for treatment. They wait, sometimes for as long as 5 months, for treatment that could provide relief from the pain and suffering of untreated mental illness and addiction.
Date: Saturday, September 17, 2022
Location: Redbud Park - 935 N Kansas Ave, Topeka, KS 66608-1212, United States
Time: 9:30pm - 12:00am
They are looking for volunteers to help with setup, registration, basic bartending, plus welcome general attendees for this inaugural event.
In case you missed Mandy Sheldon's email this week about the District Conference I have attached the information below. Please consider attending the District Conference this year. It sounds like it's going to be a great conference....and did you see there is a pub crawl? And if that doesn't get you excited, there's golf and some great presentations! If you are interested in carpooling please let me know and I can connect you with others who are attending.
One of the highlights of the Rotary year is the annual District Conference; an opportunity to join fellow Rotarians from across northeast Kansas for a few days of information, inspiration, and fun! The committee has put together a great schedule of events, and weâd love to see you there. Our theme, âBuilding Champions, Changing the Worldâ, will play upon Kansas Cityâs recent sports reputation as a budding âTitle Townâ, while focusing the work of our clubs and members to improve our communities â both locally and abroad.
Held on September 22-24, 2022, at the Hyatt Place at Lenexa City Center, the conference will feature nationally known keynote speakers, phenomenal breakout sessions on a variety of service and organizational topics (including several roundtable sessions that will allow you to brainstorm and compare notes with members from other clubs on a variety of relevant topics), hands-on service projects, and plenty of fellowship!
11:00am: Rotary Golf Tournament at St. Andrews Golf Club (See attached Flyer)
6:00pm: Pub Crawl, Beginning at Transport Brewery in Downtown Shawnee
Friday:
A full day of inspiring keynote speakers (including Royals Announcer Ryan LaFebvre, KC World Cup Executive Director Katherine Holland, and Kansas State Footballâs Joe Hall, Jr.) and breakout sessions!
In addition, weâll be hosting a club âService Fairâ and encouraging each club to break out their best middle school science fair skills to create a two or three-fold poster display of their favorite project, for a chance at some great prizes (including a club happy hour sponsoring by me for your club!). More details are attached!
Saturday:
Weâll start the day over breakfast talking about a topic that is very close to my heart â organ donation, with a keynote from a living kidney donor from India who is driving across the globe spreading the importance of donation, as well as comments from our newest district satellite club aimed at stopping organ trafficking/harvesting.
From there, weâll finish out the conference doing hands-on service projects, including assembling disaster response kits for Heart to Heart International, âfresh startâ kits for our local (CAAHT Club) sponsored anti-human trafficking global grant, and more!
We hope youâll register for the conference today (HERE) and join us on September 22-24, 2022, in Lenexa! Youâll be glad you did!
Volunteers Needed: We have the opportunity to be a part of the Nancy Perry Day of Caring on Friday 9-23-22. Over 600 volunteers will be giving their time and talent to numerous non-profits throughout our City on this day. Letâs show Topeka how great our club is by joining others in a day of caring!
If you are interested in volunteering on 9-23-22 from approximately 8:30-11:00 let Cassandra Taylor know (even if you canât commit to the entire time let us know). Once we have an idea of how many Rotarians are able to come, we will pick the perfect volunteer project for us to do together. Also included for volunteers is a Nancy Perry Day of Caring T-shirt. We have it on good authority that the shirts are âvery coolâ this year.
Please let Cassandra know by 8-19-22 of your interest. You can contact Cassandra at cmt@htkarchitects.com or 785-506-2316. We will also have a sign-up sheet at our 8-19-22 club meeting.
