Faron and Carol - Rotary Foundation

Please join us Friday, April 7, to learn from Faron and Carol about Rotary Foundation!

This program will be an overview of Our Rotary Foundation and the wonderful projects that have been funded with Rotary Foundation funds. Through District Grants and Global Grants we have been able to help thousands of individuals worldwide. Faron is our District Rotary Foundation Chair and Carol is our Paul Harris Society Chair. We will learn how the funds are used, what the recognition levels mean, and what possibilities for future grants are available. Carol will talk about the Paul Harris Society and how you can be a part of it.

This week's meeting will be held in person at Bishop Professional Development (PD) Center, 3601 SW 31st Street, Topeka, KS, 66614. Click here for directions.

Announcements will begin promptly at 7:45 am, with breakfast and coffee being served at 7:30 am!

Sole Mates

Rotarians,

Students arrive at 1pm. Pair up one-on-one with a child at Shoe Carnival and help them pick out their very own pair of brand new tennis shoes! The shoes are paid for from existing donations along with a District 5710 grant, so there is no monetary commitment for volunteers. Each event takes approximately 30 minutes.

When:  12 Volunteers are needed for this final date of the year:
April 11, 12:55pm - Shaner Preschool

Email Jamie Stafford at jamies@keystaffing.com to sign up, or call/text 785-224-9994.

Where:
Shoe Carnival
1930 SW Wanamaker Rd

Why:
Sole Mates provides new shoes and socks to kids, allowing them to be better participants in activities and alleviates some issues that result from not having “the right things.” If shoes are not replaced often, they become a hospitable environment for bacteria to thrive. For many of the families serviced, shoes are handed down from child to child creating more opportunity for unsanitary situations. Short term effects of shoes that do not properly fit include blisters, pressure sores, & ingrown toe nails. Children could end up with deformities, posture problems, & joint issues.

Bridge Builder's Program

From Johnathan Sublet:

I am so excited that Topeka South Rotary is interested in partnering with us on the Bridge Builder's Program. I am attaching some more information on the Bridge Builder's Investment Club. In the information, you will find multiple ways to help. One need that arrived yesterday is that our speaker for the April 20th session of Bridge Builder's had to cancel because of a family and work emergency. We are looking for a replacement. Below is information on the session and what the ask is.

April 20th Information
Time: 5:30pm-7:30pm
Place: Avondale East Elementary (455 SE Golf Park Blvd., Topeka, KS 66605)
Topic: Compounding interest and basic introduction to stock market/investing
Purpose: Bridge Builder's is a youth investment club in the Hi-Crest community. The speaker will deliver a TED talk on compounding interest and a basic introduction to the stock market/investing. The session is to be capped at 18 minutes in length and should be as interactive as possible, engaging different learning modes.
Desired Outcome: The students and their parents learn some basics surrounding these elements of  compounding interest and a basic introduction to the stock market/investing (Ted talk and then play Life, the board game. The food will be themed around the game.) Example: if I invest x each month for 30 years, how much will I have?

Additionally, here are some links to videos about the program:

Our top needs are:
  • Investment coaches.
  • To find money to increase our investment nest egg
  • Scholarship funds for this May.
  • Also, since our registration has skyrocketed, we will need some more copies of the Life and Monopoly board games.
For anything concerning Bridge Builder's Brail is the contact. I am also attaching our flier for the Teacher Resource Fair. Jill Rice is the contact for that.

Snail mail no more? How to keep email marketing relevant

Based on the feedback from this year's Fireside Chats, it appears that the majority of members would prefer to receive their membership dues invoice via email instead of snail mail. Please send a message to Candy Williams to let her know which option works best for you!
