Patti Mellard - Human Trafficking Prevention

Please join us Friday, January 13, to hear from Patti Mellard about the Rotary Swarm to End Human Trafficking!

January is National Human Trafficking Prevention Month. Human trafficking is a crime in which force, fraud or coercion is used to compel a person to perform labor or sex. It is estimated that 4.5 million people worldwide are victims of forced sexual exploitation. Patti Mellard will speak to TSR about Rotary’s efforts to fight human trafficking and assist victims and survivors of trafficking in our Rotary District 5710.

This week's meeting will be held in person at Washburn University Memorial Union in Washburn B. Click here for directions using Google Maps. Announcements will begin promptly at 7:45 am, with breakfast and coffee being served at 7:30 am!

Lunch Bunch

Hello Topeka South Rotarians!

There is a new location this year since Stout Elementary closed at the end of last year.  We will be meeting monthly in the library at Highland Park Central Elementary School from 12:45-1:15p.m. through May.  Another change is that we will be honoring 14 students each month. Last year we had 8 students per month.  It is exciting to be interacting with even more students, but this also means we will need almost double the volunteers. The goal is to have one volunteer per student. At the very least, we need to provide 7 volunteers a month so that one volunteer does not have more than two students. These are special students who are deserving of our time and attention.

Exciting news! We will be receiving District Grant money for Lunch Bunch this year. The funding covers pizza, drinks and books. Therefore,  volunteers are NOT asked to bring any cash to pay for the food items this year.

Here are more details not in the flier on how to find the school library:
You can park along 28th street on the school side of the road. You may also park inside the fenced area along 28th Street if space is available, even though the lot is labeled as "Staff Parking". Be sure to pay attention to the signage posted inside the fenced area.  You will enter through door #6 (labeled above the door). This door faces 28th Street and you will need to walk through the fenced area to find it. Once you enter through the double doors, take the first right available. Walk to the end of that hall to the office which will be on your left. You will need to sign in at the office and then you will be directed to the library.

If you are a new TSR member, the flier provides an explanation of what the volunteers do. For anyone who has never tried this program, we would love to have you.  If you have previously volunteered for Lunch Bunch, thank you so much and I hope you can join us again this year.  If your schedule does not permit you to volunteer in-person at the school, you are always welcome to help by donating books, especially 2nd-5th grade levels.

My contact information is on the flier.
