New Member Spotlight: Katy Nelson

Katy Nelson has been married to her husband Jason since 2000. They have 4 children and 4 grandchildren plus 1 on the way.  She has been the CEO of the Topeka Area Building Association for 2 years now and loves her job. Before this career path, she was an insurance agent. She tries to help so many areas of the community that they serve and that is very important to her.  She learns something new every day in her job.  She likes spending time with her family, kayaking, hiking, camping.  She loves to travel and explore everywhere that she can.  Katy volunteers as much as she can to make sure that Topeka is moving in the right direction.  She believes that we do not have the right to complain about something if we are not willing to fix it. Together we can all improve Topeka and the surrounding area.  She enjoys life and tries to make everything fun.

Bridge Builder's Program

From Johnathan Sublet:

I am so excited that Topeka South Rotary is interested in partnering with us on the Bridge Builder's Program. I am attaching some more information on the Bridge Builder's Investment Club. In the information, you will find multiple ways to help. One need that arrived yesterday is that our speaker for the April 20th session of Bridge Builder's had to cancel because of a family and work emergency. We are looking for a replacement. Below is information on the session and what the ask is.

April 20th Information
Time: 5:30pm-7:30pm
Place: Avondale East Elementary (455 SE Golf Park Blvd., Topeka, KS 66605)
Topic: Compounding interest and basic introduction to stock market/investing
Purpose: Bridge Builder's is a youth investment club in the Hi-Crest community. The speaker will deliver a TED talk on compounding interest and a basic introduction to the stock market/investing. The session is to be capped at 18 minutes in length and should be as interactive as possible, engaging different learning modes.
Desired Outcome: The students and their parents learn some basics surrounding these elements of  compounding interest and a basic introduction to the stock market/investing (Ted talk and then play Life, the board game. The food will be themed around the game.) Example: if I invest x each month for 30 years, how much will I have?

Additionally, here are some links to videos about the program:

Our top needs are:
  • Investment coaches.
  • To find money to increase our investment nest egg
  • Scholarship funds for this May.
  • Also, since our registration has skyrocketed, we will need some more copies of the Life and Monopoly board games.
For anything concerning Bridge Builder's Brail is the contact. I am also attaching our flier for the Teacher Resource Fair. Jill Rice is the contact for that.

Love the people See the need Serve the will of God,
