It's nearly February. How are your health and wellness New Year Resolutions going? Have they been forgotten? Still working hard to keep them? Joe Robinson, Director of Health & Performance at Rebound Physical Therapy, will be with us Friday in the Bradbury Thompson Alumni Center to offer tips on how to keep and accomplish your resolutions, especially in regards to exercise and eating.
Presentations were a plenty at Friday's TSR weekly meeting! Blue badges were presented to Candy Williams, Alice Weingartner, Dave Frederick and Sandy Warren. Congratulations to all!
Who do you know that would make an excellent Topeka South Rotarian? Start thinking and inviting guests that could be prospective members!
Topeka South Rotary is embarking on our membership drive for February and March. Stay tuned for a calendar of meetings, community service events and socials for these two months! We ask you to bring your guest(s) that is interested in membership for three occasions – at least one of those need to be a regular meeting.
For guests that have visited Topeka South Rotary three times, and make application during February or March, their $90 initiation fee will be waived!
For Topeka South Rotarians bringing guests, your name will be put into a drawing for each guest you bring during February and March. The winner of the drawing will receive free membership for one year!
RYLA 2018 is a five-day camp for incoming high school sophomores, juniors and seniors interested in developing leadership potential. The students will learn from business and community leaders about strengthening their leadership skills and abilities, promoting ethical behavior, and facilitating personal growth and self-awareness. There are several past participants of this program that stated their experience was life-changing and made them more aware of their capabilities. It is common to see a student become emotional when talking about their experience with RYLA. For many students, this is their first exposure to Rotary and what we, as Rotarians, can accomplish. The projects and exercises in this five-day camp are designed to get the students to think differently about certain situations and develop their own solutions with fellow students they may have not met before attending the camp. Many students worldwide, who have attended RYLA, have continued on to become members of an Interact, Rotaract, and eventually a Rotary club.
The University of Kansas in Lawrence will once again host District 5710's Rotary Youth Leadership Academy (RYLA) from June 3th - June 7th. The cost per student is $325 ($300 registration fee paid by the sponsoring club and $25 application fee paid by the student). Topeka South Rotary has allocated funding for four students in this year’s budget. 85 students attended last year's RYLA, engaging in a wide range of leadership development, team-building, civic engagement, and community service activities.
You can find the applications and brochure for the 2018 RYLA on our website here or the District 5710 website under the tab marked “RYLA”. The applications along with the fee can be submitted to Faron Barr, the District 5710 RYLA Chair.
