Tell Me Something Good.....
TSR’s Rotary Youth Exchange student, Angelle (Angie) Guber

Happy 17th birthday, Angie! We hope you had a great day on March 31! Angie has been in the states since August 2019 and attending Washburn Rural High School. She has remained in close contact with her family in Brazil as well as Alice Weingartner, her TSR mentor. COVID-19 has put an “interesting” twist on her experience in America, but her education hasn’t ended…!

From Angie: “Quarantine has been a hard time for me because I love school, but I've been trying to get the best out of it. I've been trying to challenge myself doing things I'm not used to, and learning something different. For example, I've always wanted to do yoga, and I'm learning! I'm also learning how to cook different things and my host mom, Nancy Goodall, has been teaching me how to do glass work! I'm taking this free time to get to know myself better!”

Tell Me Something More...
Let’s Dance!
Topeka South member Jennifer Goetz and her husband, Jeff Carson: “Jeff and I have been making an effort to go “see” someone as often as we can since the Safer-At-Home order was issued. We leave meals, cookies, chat from the street. We try to leave the house (for our own sanity) and to make sure we’re just... being real humans who love our friends. Last weekend, we decided to bike to the grocery store since it was so pretty out and the safest route took us by our friend Ryan’s house! I knew he had a Ring® doorbell and we just decided to geek it up and dance! He put the music to it (never trust a creative with too much time on their hands... myself included!)!”

Check out the video HERE. We see an “America’s Got Talent” appearance in their future!

Jennifer was also featured on KSNT News this week discussing a design she created featuring the Kansas motto, “Ad Astra Per Aspera.” Proceeds from the shirts will be donated to restaurant workers.
And More...
Using Resources and Skills to help others:
Mike Conlin, TSR member and owner of Jayhawk Pharmacy, shared that the pharmacy is providing drive thru and curb side service only.

“I wanted to let you know that our pharmacists have been compounding 75 percent isopropyl, hydrogen peroxide and glycerin to make hand sanitizer. We have it available at Jayhawk Pharmacy’s located at 2860 SW Mission Woods Dr. and 2620 SW 6th Ave. In no way am I trying to sell hand sanitizer to fellow Rotarians, but do want to make others aware in case they are in need. We are simply using whatever resources and skills we have to work toward safety in our community.”

A 240 cc container is $15.95, plus tax.

A Little More...

Happy 22nd birthday, MBPiland!
Happy, happy birthday to MB Piland Advertising + Marketing on April 1! The full-service advertising, marketing, public relations and creative technologies firm is owned by TSR’s own, Martha Bartlett Piland. Congratulations and cheers to more success!

Murray Moore and Topeka High Interact Club:
The Topeka High Interact Club donated 28 “Go Kits” to the YWCA of Northeast Kansas in early March. Many thanks to the high school Rotary students for their generous donation!

AND Because Their Can't Possibly be Enough Good...
Need Help Navigating Resources and the State Government?
From State Representative and TSR member Brenda Dietrich: “Many may not know this, but lawmakers cannot forward our office phones to our homes or pick up message from home. So, I am trying to make sure people can get in touch with me if they need help with community resources or navigating our state’s bureaucracy. If you need help with finding information or connecting with local/state agencies, please contact me.  I may not be your Representative, but I am willing to help.”
