3/1: HARVESTERS OFF-SITE MEETNG

This Friday, TSR will be off-site to Harvesters. Our volunteer shift is from 7:30-8:30 am, but please plan to arrive about 5 minutes early to get checked in. March is National Nutrition Month to help raise awareness of making informed food choices. Due to that, we are asking that each Rotary member bring fresh produce to donate, as well as your time. The best fruits and vegetables are known as the Hard 7, because they are nutritious and have a long shelf life. Those items are: Oranges, Apples, Carrots, Onions, Cabbage, Potatoes, and Sweet Potatoes.

We will be working in a warehouse environment so below are a few items to remember:
  1. Everyone will want to dress very casually and layer for warmth.
  2. Open-toed shoes life flip-flops or sandals are not allowed.
  3. Jewelry should be kept to a minimum.
  4. Children under the age of 8 are not permitted in the warehouse for safety reasons.
  5. All volunteers must be free of contagious illness (runny nose, colds, the flu, strep throat, etc.)

When entering Harvesters, plan to go through the main entrance (red awning) and park in either the lot across the street or next to the building.

DISTRICT CONFERENCE IN TOPEKA APRIL 26-27
The Rotary District Conference 5710 will be held at the new Cyrus Hotel in downtown Topeka, April 26-27. To register online today, click here.

If you have never attended a conference before, this is the conference for you. You can attend for the discounted price of only $69, limited to the first 30 to register.

Friday begins at 1:00 with One Rotary Summit, a leadership session with DGE Jason Leib and Neil Wakefield. At 5:30 the fun ramps up with a casual cocktail party, featuring our own PDG/RI Director Larry Dimmitt and his bluegrass band, "Bluemont Singer Revival." Then we take the party to the streets for more FUN, music, magic, FUN entertainment wrapped around a scavenger hunt involving the Pennant (food, drink, bowling, arcade), the Iron Rail Brewing, a fine arts gallery and many specialty shops (Chocolates, Popcorn, Local Art, Art Glass) on Kansas Avenue. And a fabulous prize for the winners.

Saturday begins at 7:45 for an early breakfast that begins your journey to "Follow the Yellow Brick Road" . . to Inspiration. Our keynote speaker will be Dr. Todd Jenkins - "Dr. Bowtie" - an animated and inspirational national speaker. He has been featured at Zone meetings and Rotary International Conventional. Other speakers will include PDG Shirley Grace (RI President's Representative), Kansas Attorney Derrick Schmidt and the very entertaining Marvin Stottlemire.

A District project is planned for Saturday afternoon. The Conference will close with a cash bar reception and Celebration Banquet - all casual dress. The dinner will end about 8:30 pm for those who want to head home to their families.

Throughout the conference we will honor the memory of Rotarians that are no longer with us, celebrate our club presidents, and welcome our presidents-elect. There will be LOTS of ways to win prizes and awards!

Mingling with Rotarians will be encouraged - and rewarded! Sorry, no club tables allowed! The purpose is the get to know and network with Rotarians from all over the district.

As a bonus, the Cyrus Hotel has a fully stocked bar that includes many local beers. Purchase a drink and bring it to the conference meetings if you like - open bar all day - a request from many Rotarians in the pre-conference survey!

Get ready for some FUN!
