Please join us Friday, October 20, to hear from Donna Rae Pearson about mapping inequality! Donna Rae Pearson is a radical historian with a master's degree in history with an emphasis in public history from Wichita State University. Her research focuses on the history of African Americans in Kansas, Kansas history and historic preservation. During the past 25 years, her skills have helped her engage diverse communities in the creation and preservation of their local history. As a result, she highly values participatory history-based research projects that give underrepresented groups agency to tell their stories in the most accessible way possible. She has conducted numerous history community engagement and oral history projects plus developed both walking and driving tours for organizations. Many of these projects are through her consulting companies, Kitchen Table History, and the Other Road. Currently, she is working for the Kansas Museum of History as a Collection Development Specialist. In this role, she helps acquire new material culture for the Society’s collections and is helping to craft a ‘new Kansas history’ for the museum’s permanent gallery. This week's meeting will be held at Bishop Professional Development (PD) Center, 3601 SW 31st Street, Topeka, KS, 66614, in the Sumner Room. Click here for directions. Announcements will begin promptly at 7:45 am, with breakfast and coffee being served at 7:30 am! |
