Marcus Miller: First Tee-Greater Topeka

Please join us Friday, February 3, to hear from Marcus Miller about First Tee - Greater Topeka!

First Tee - Greater Topeka is a youth development organization that enables kids to build the strength of character that empowers them through a lifetime of new challenges. By seamlessly integrating the game of golf with a life skills curriculum, they create active learning experiences that build inner strength, self-confidence, and resilience that kids can carry to everything they do.

This week's meeting will be held in person at Washburn University Memorial Union in the Kansas Room. Click here for directions using Google Maps. Announcements will begin promptly at 7:45 am, with breakfast and coffee being served at 7:30 am!

Rotary Leadership Institute

To: All Rotarians

We are now taking registrations for the next Rotary Leadership Institute scheduled for Friday, Feb 10 & Saturday, Feb 11, 2023.

This training session will provide you with the knowledge and perspective about where Rotary has been, where it is now, and a future vision of what Rotary can be.

We encourage Rotarians who are interested in club leadership to attend this February hybrid session. The Friday session (5:30 - 8:30 pm) will be via Zoom, and the Saturday session (8:30 am - 5:00 pm) will be in Manhattan, Kansas.

There is no fee, and we will provide you with course materials and the district will treat you to a Rockin’ K lunch! Class size is limited to 15 participants, so register now!

Bridge Builder's Program

From Johnathan Sublet:

I am so excited that Topeka South Rotary is interested in partnering with us on the Bridge Builder's Program. I am attaching some more information on the Bridge Builder's Investment Club. In the information, you will find multiple ways to help. One need that arrived yesterday is that our speaker for the April 20th session of Bridge Builder's had to cancel because of a family and work emergency. We are looking for a replacement. Below is information on the session and what the ask is.

April 20th Information
Time: 5:30pm-7:30pm
Place: Avondale East Elementary (455 SE Golf Park Blvd., Topeka, KS 66605)
Topic: Compounding interest and basic introduction to stock market/investing
Purpose: Bridge Builder's is a youth investment club in the Hi-Crest community. The speaker will deliver a TED talk on compounding interest and a basic introduction to the stock market/investing. The session is to be capped at 18 minutes in length and should be as interactive as possible, engaging different learning modes.
Desired Outcome: The students and their parents learn some basics surrounding these elements of  compounding interest and a basic introduction to the stock market/investing (Ted talk and then play Life, the board game. The food will be themed around the game.) Example: if I invest x each month for 30 years, how much will I have?

Additionally, here are some links to videos about the program:

Our top needs are:
  • Investment coaches.
  • To find money to increase our investment nest egg
  • Scholarship funds for this May.
  • Also, since our registration has skyrocketed, we will need some more copies of the Life and Monopoly board games.
For anything concerning Bridge Builder's Brail is the contact. I am also attaching our flier for the Teacher Resource Fair. Jill Rice is the contact for that.
