Bill Acree and Malorie Woods: Northeast Kansas Animal Welfare Foundation

Please join us Friday as we hear from Bill Acree and Malorie Woods about the Northeast Kansas Animal Welfare Foundation!

Northeast Kansas Animal Welfare Foundation helps shelters and rescues maximize their full potential by providing grant funding, professional development, and other resources to help them achieve their mission. To do this, the Foundation works closely with organizations in 24 counties to identify their greatest needs. Then, the Foundation partners with donors to make investments in improving animal welfare. In the last month, NKAWF has awarded $25,000 in grants to help with veterinary care, capital improvements, technology upgrades, and spay and neuter programs.

Lunch Bunch

- When: 4/19/23 (Monthly from 12:45-1:15p.m. through May)
- Where: In the library at Highland Park Central Elementary School
- What: We will be honoring 14 students each month. The goal is to have one volunteer per student. At the very least, we need to provide 7 volunteers a month so that one volunteer does not have more than two students. These are special students who are deserving of our time and attention.

Location details:
You can park along 28th street on the school side of the road. You may also park inside the fenced area along 28th Street if space is available, even though the lot is labeled as "Staff Parking". Be sure to pay attention to the signage posted inside the fenced area.  You will enter through door #6 (labeled above the door). This door faces 28th Street and you will need to walk through the fenced area to find it. Once you enter through the double doors, take the first right available. Walk to the end of that hall to the office which will be on your left. You will need to sign in at the office and then you will be directed to the library.

Bridge Builder's Program

From Johnathan Sublet:

I am so excited that Topeka South Rotary is interested in partnering with us on the Bridge Builder's Program. I am attaching some more information on the Bridge Builder's Investment Club. In the information, you will find multiple ways to help. One need that arrived yesterday is that our speaker for the April 20th session of Bridge Builder's had to cancel because of a family and work emergency. We are looking for a replacement. Below is information on the session and what the ask is.

April 20th Information
Time: 5:30pm-7:30pm
Place: Avondale East Elementary (455 SE Golf Park Blvd., Topeka, KS 66605)
Topic: Compounding interest and basic introduction to stock market/investing
Purpose: Bridge Builder's is a youth investment club in the Hi-Crest community. The speaker will deliver a TED talk on compounding interest and a basic introduction to the stock market/investing. The session is to be capped at 18 minutes in length and should be as interactive as possible, engaging different learning modes.
Desired Outcome: The students and their parents learn some basics surrounding these elements of  compounding interest and a basic introduction to the stock market/investing (Ted talk and then play Life, the board game. The food will be themed around the game.) Example: if I invest x each month for 30 years, how much will I have?

Additionally, here are some links to videos about the program:

Our top needs are:
  • Investment coaches.
  • To find money to increase our investment nest egg
  • Scholarship funds for this May.
  • Also, since our registration has skyrocketed, we will need some more copies of the Life and Monopoly board games.
For anything concerning Bridge Builder's Brail is the contact. I am also attaching our flier for the Teacher Resource Fair. Jill Rice is the contact for that.

Snail mail no more? How to keep email marketing relevant

Based on the feedback from this year's Fireside Chats, it appears that the majority of members would prefer to receive their membership dues invoice via email instead of snail mail. Please send a message to Candy Williams to let her know which option works best for you!
