Jenny Torrence is the owner of Serendipity, Pinkadilly and Noto Burrito. Her presentation will bring awareness to local business, and educate people on howtheir support truly affects lives and helps to make their community more diverse and colorful. Jenny’s true passion, in a world of internet shopping and chain retailers, is seeing the importance of those small mom and pop businesses in a community. Jenny was recently recognized by GoTopeka as the "Small Business Advocate" for 2017.
It's time to organize for Guatemala. Jorge says, "for sure we will appreciate any support in regards medicine, multi-vitamins, shoes, water filters (to replace the ceramic filter) cook stoves, beds and baby clothes." You can download the wish list here. Financial contributions are also welcome.
This photo is from last year's trip. See all those smiling faces! "Service above self" in action.
All District 5710 Rotarians are invited to participate in Emerging District Leaders training and to apply for one of four $750 stipends the District will provide this year for attendance at the Rotary Zones 21b & 27 Institute to be held in Houston September 14-17. This portion of the Institute programming has been specifically designed for Rotarians who have been active in their clubs and who would like to learn more about Rotary at the district and zone levels, with an eye toward possible service beyond the club.
If you would like to apply for this partial expense reimbursement, please email Vickie Randel, Lawrence Rotary Club, and briefly describe your reason for wanting to attend, prior service to your club, and past participation in district events. The email address is vrandel5710@gmail.com, and the deadline for submission is July 22.
Benjy (son of TSR member Baili Zhang) presented the fourth check to TSR Sole Mates at last Friday's club meeting, bringing the total amount he has donated in the past four years to $2,454. He also bid farewell to TSR before heading east to attend the University of Pennsylvania this fall.
He plans to continue to raise funds for Sole Mates through the sales of his professionally recorded CD, “Music for the Sole," which will be completed in late August. He suggests a donation of $10 per copy, and all proceeds will go to Sole Mates.
Many thanks to Benjy for sharing his immense talents in selfless service.
