ZOOM Meetings - It's working!

With our third ZOOM meeting on April 23 "under our belts" the life of our Rotary Club continues.

President Harbinder has booked speakers - none other than Kansen Chu will be featured at our April 30 meeting.

Members receive an email with a link to the meeting a day or two before the meeting which starts at noon. Join in and hear the latest from your fellow club members and our guest speaker.

Note: during the ZOOM meeting, use the Mute feature when you're not speaking so your background noises (phones ringing, cats meowing, coffee slurping, keyboard tapping) don't distract.

Join us!!! We'll be having a virtual celebration of Richard's Birthday and Eric's Rotary Anniversary!

April 28, 2020 Board Meeting

Our April Board Meeting was organized to take place via ZOOM. Once everyone logged in and got organized, we had a very well-organized and productive meeting.

The board members approved several motions:

Discontinuing paying for MeetUp for the next few months and re-starting in July.
Continuing club meetings on ZOOM for the rest of this Rotary year (through June 30).
Selecting the San Jose State University Student Crisis Support Fund for May's Community Service Project
Upon obtaining clarifying information from Dir. of Youth Services, Ruth Ashford, diverting April's Happy 5's to an Interact project

RE: SJSU Fund

"We sincerely hope you are healthy and safe as life changes amid the COVID-19 pandemic. The crisis has had a huge impact on all of our lives. Firsthand, we know students who have lost their off-campus jobs and are struggling to pay for housing, food, bills and technology for online courses. Many are medically uninsured and seriously worried about their health."

RE: Interact Project

"Vina Le, and Shaina Ambashta are Area Representatives for Interact’s Areas 4, 5, and 6. We are currently carrying out a project called "Senior Pen Pals" where we write uplifting messages to people in senior homes since many residents have less visitors and are feeling isolated as a result of COVID-19. Our members can make art, send photos of their pets, write messages of hope, or send notes or poems to show their appreciation and care. We will then email their work to a senior home for distribution to their residents.

We were wondering if you'd be willing to help us raise money for our district projects and COVID-19 relief by matching the number of emails we send with a monetary donation. For example, for every email we write, Rotary could donate $1. We could also put a cap on the amount of money donated; let us know how much you are able to donate. We were planning on allocating the funds raised so that 60% goes towards the United Way Bay Area COVID-19 Community Relief Fund, an organization supporting COVID-19 relief in the Bay Area, and 40% goes towards our projects. This would greatly help us come closer to hitting our fundraising goals for the year, as well as help provide relief to those affected by COVID-19 in our community. Please let me know if this is possible! We would greatly appreciate it."

No Meetings? - Give to The Rotary Foundation

Our total dollar amount of giving to The Rotary Foundation has exceeded our club goal for this year, HOWEVER, our goal of involving every club member has fallen short.

A gift of just $25 qualifies you as a member of EREY (Every Rotarian Every Year). Since we're not having to pay for lunches this month, why not donate the cost of a lunch or two to The Rotary Foundation?

Why?

TRF mission

The mission of The Rotary Foundation of Rotary International is to enable Rotarians to advance world understanding, goodwill, and peace through the improvement of health, the support of education, and the alleviation of poverty.

What impact can one donation have?

For as little as 60 cents, a child can be protected from polio.
$50 can provide clean water to help fight waterborne illness.
$500 can launch an antibullying campaign and create a safe environment for children.
