This week we regretfully accepted the resignations of several board members and as well as a club member: John, Charlie, Serene, Vijay and Lupe. Three of the four remaining board members and eight club members met with DG Tim Lundell, PDG Arly Marley and DGN Greg Giusiana on August 29, 2018 to set about restoring the board and setting a course for the future.
DG Tim pointed that his purpose at the meeting was to advise--not having authority over club business. He did stress that he is responsible to RI in determining that a club is functioning. He read from the club bylaws that the remaining members of the board are to fill vacated positions. The remaining members are: President-elect and Club Service, Harbinder Sikka, Secretary, Ravi Pathak, Treaureer, Marianne Ezell and International Service, Arpita Sikka (with Soma Chatterjee). The following persons were nominated, seconded and unanimously voted as members of the board: President Sara Calkins Youth Service Ruth Ashford Vocational Service Eric Peterson Community Service TBC Past District Governor, Arly Marly, strongly advised that we make it a priority that our club members participate in a District-led Visioning Exercise. Many of those present had been asking for this for several years. At the September 6 Club Assembly we will survey the group to find a 4-hour time slot that most of us can fit into our schedules. This is an exercise badly needed and I strongly encourage all who are able to participate. As an outgrowth of this exercise we will plan for the club's future, and develop a committee to review recommended bylaws.
Also at our Sep. 6 Assembly we will have a "do-over" on the vote for the San Jose East Endowment Board members. The manner in which the vote was handled at the Aug 22 was taken into question, so as DG Tim advsied we need to be sure "all the i's are dotted and ts' crossed." - Nominees will provide a brief candidate statement in advance
- We have printed ballot of nominees
- Nominations and statements will be taken from the floor
- Those present will mark their ballots which will be collected by the club secretary
- Ballots will be emailed to those members not present
- Those not present will be given a week (until close of business PDT Sep 13) to return their votes via email
- The final decision will be announced via ClubRunner email on Sep 14.
The final priority discussed was financial. Treasurer Marianne reported that with the current cost of lunches at The Ranch (at about $500/wk) is not covered by lunches paid for by members--at a loss of about $1,200/month. Adrian Diaz volunteered to cover the loss during the month of September as we explore changing meeting places. Secretary Ravi Pathak has come with two viable alternatives. So for September we will continue to meet at The Ranch. See you tomorrow!!! |
