Meeting Notes - October 31, 2017 – Notes by Heather

                                                             

President Scott or the Great Pumpkin shared Halloween greetings at 12:30.

 

 
Stephen led us in the Pledge of Allegiance.  Heather shared: “When witches go riding, and black cats are seen, the moon laughs and whispers 'tis near Halloween”, by Unknown and Max says:  “It’s all just a bunch of hocus pocus!”
 
Phil led us in song and a special Happy Birthday wishes to StephenBert led introductions of many friends and spouses.   Dick shared a vocational minute to remind us of Rotary’s initial foundation is Service and still a strong part of who we are today 
 
Monique’s ‘Cupcake Moment’ was presented to Jim C, Hal, Dave and Judy. Plus special recognition to Jim Cochran for Paul Harris 5+.
 
Members shared “fun was had by all” at last week’s social with creative costumes, fun decorations and enjoyment of meeting Tori’s family members.  Thank you Tori!!
 
Dave shared Community Service update of CSMA event was sold out and Jim passed around bell ringing sign up for December 9th at Safeway on San Antonio.  
 
President’s Club continues to grow and 2 more members were recognized as presently at 21 members.
Upcoming Events:
  • November Board Meeting is Thursday, November 16th at 4pm.
  • November 19th at 9am:  Bruce announced is Cops & Gobblers, meet at MV Police Station to assemble and deliver.
  • February 3, 2018 is our very own Crab feed.  Mark your calendar as a new weekend to build support with Interact clubs. 
  • Upcoming Auction item for endowment fundraiser:  Rental of a Santé Fe house that is 4 bedrooms/ 4 baths that sleeps 12 people.
 
Today our Speaker was Nancy Unger and she spoke of “Bob & Belle La Follette: Progressive Models for Today”.   She shared 10 lesson of life as evidence in the history of politics when the La Follette’s lead reform as Progressive Movement in Wisconsin and USA in the late 1800s to 1920s.  History is a good resource to assist with solutions for today’s political matters and noted there are several parallels of the LaFollette movement and today.
 
              
 
She concluded with sharing a 2 minute sound film of La Follette giving a speech in 1924:
