Today our speaker was Dr. Jeff Harding, Superintendent of the local High School District. His talk was about “Equity in Education” in which he explained the differences in student ability and outlook, depending on their socio-economic position.

The district, with the financial support of the MVLA Educational Foundation, is doing much to level the students with a boost for those in the lower levels. The biggest item may be the AVID program that is open to all focusing on kids who would be the first in their families to attend college and provides an extra class period for students with many enrichment parts. The district also faces a substantial growth to the current 4200 students with a likely increase in enrollment if the Mountain View North Bayshore growth occurs with its 1100 students.
