Meeting Notes -- September 1, 2020
Meeting Notes
September 1, 2020

Here’s our news for this week:

Rotary News

President Paul welcomed everyone to today’s Mountain View Rotary Meeting.  The Rotary International theme for this year is “Rotary Opens Opportunities.”  Our Club theme is “We Open Opportunities For Everyone in the Community.”

Paul thanked our long time Foundation Chair, Monique Kane, for her years of service in this role and asked for a volunteer from the Club to take over as Foundation Chair for this year.  The goal for the Club is to have 100% participation in this year’s contributions to the Foundation

Paul thanked Tori, Twana, and Heather for joining the President’s Club.  Alan also joined the President’s Club during the meeting.  The President’s Club is $150 with $100 going to the Club Endowment and $50 going to the Club Account.  For those who would like to join, please make your checks out to the Mountain View Rotary Club and send them to Mountain View Rotary President’s Club, PO Box 390280, Mountain View, California 94041.

From Heather:  If you have speaker ideas for the upcoming year, please sign up for a week(s) or month via this spreadsheet or contact me by email (hsten@me.com) or phone:  https://drive.google.com/file/d/1yWN7DTtzVo5i8Zk8lAeZFM8f6fZ0D5-b/view?usp=sharing

For some of our longer tenured members, we received word that former MV Rotarian Bob Johanson’s wife Paula recently passed away.  Our thoughts and prayers are with Bob and his family during this time.

If anyone knows of any of our members in distress or that need anything, please let President Paul or one of the Board Members know.  We want to make sure everyone knows that we are here to take care of each other.

Speaker

Heather introduced our speaker, Pat Mitchell, who is the Executive Director of Parisi House.  Pat has spent more than twenty years in different roles in the non-profit world.

The Parisi House provides treatment and temporary housing for addicted mothers and their children.  The staff works with the mothers to get them on the right track which then helps to get their children on the right track as well.  These services are available to low income mothers who are pregnant and/or with children aged five years and under.  The goal of the program is to keep the mother and children together during treatment. The temporary housing is available between three and six months.  The services include individualized counseling, group counseling, parent training, support groups, as well as child education and support.  There is a strong focus on bonding between the mother and children.

Parisi House partners with more than fifty community organizations to offer their services.  There is currently a bit of a challenge because of the pandemic.  Clients coming directly from a hospital can be admitted into the program right away, but otherwise, new clients must be quarantined until they can be tested with a negative result.

The program also offers After Care which pairs former clients that have successfully completed the program with clients transitioning from the in house treatment.

Other Stuff

Heather just wanted to share that you never know when she might be snapping a photo so be ready!

And a couple of smiles from Phil.

Next Meeting
