President Jerylann opened the meeting at 12:30 PM with her welcome.
Roger Kao was the greeter and gave the Thought for the Day: He is celebrating his 50th year since graduation from high school in Korea and gave thanks for his education and friends here in the USA.
Scott introduced Steve Ross, Richard Schoelerman from Palo Alto University Club, Deb Hope, and Duncan MacVicar.
Dick introduced Tom Myers for his Vocational Talk: Tom was educated in communications, but after 3 years in Liberia in the Peace Corps he changed to working for non-profit corporations and is now the Executive Director of Community Services Organization in Mountain View.
Dave gave his report concerning CSMA hosting: On Monday evening, January 30, Sara and Judy will be the ushers. He has signups for the next month.
Sanjay reported that he and Judy will be managing the speech contest for high school students at our club on February 7th and will need assistance
Alan collected information from all present concerning ticket sales for our Crab Feed fund raiser. The big event will be held next Saturday (1/28) and all members will be needed to staff the event during the day Saturday. He recruited Dave to pick up bread on Friday evening and Scott to pick up food from Milk Pail on Saturday morning. He asked that those coming to work in preparation on Saturday morning to bring knives. Twana suggested that we label our knives to avoid confusion.
Tickets can be sold on line up until noon, Saturday.
Bruce is managing the art silent auction at the same time as the Crab Feed. Art will be displayed around the room at the Buddhist Temple and will run from 7 to 8 PM.
Bruce also said today is the last day to sign up for the ski trip to Tahoe on 23 to 27 February. There is a great amount of snow at Tahoe and should be great skiing.
Dick announced that J. Gibbons will be speaking on the History of Silicon Valley at the First Methodist church in Palo Alto on February 5, 7 PM. Gibbons was one of the earliest founders in the semiconductor industry in the valley.

The Orphan Train Movement
Speaker: Jeanne MacVicar, Real Estate business, Rotarian in Los Altos, CA
Jeanne has a lifelong interest in history which led to extensive research on the Orphan Train Movement. It was a supervised welfare program that transported orphaned and homeless children from crowded Eastern cities of the United States to foster homes located largely in rural areas of the Midwest. The orphan trains operated between 1854 and 1929, relocating about 200,000 orphaned, abandoned, or homeless children
