Meeting Notes - August 1, 2017
Mountain View Rotary
Meeting August 1, 2017
Notes by Dick

The Mountain View Rotary Club was brought to attention by the ringing of The Bell at 12:30npm by our illustrious president Scott Johnson who led us in the Pledge of Allegiance.

Song master Phil led us in the song: God Bless America.

We had several visitors and guests today.  Rita Yang from the Rotary Club of Beijing Mandarin was here with her daughter Melissa Lu who is also living in Beijing.  Melissa grew up in Mountain View, so as she said, “She has gone full circle.”  Melissa has an equestrian business in Palo Alto.  Kim Copher from Los Altos Rotary joined us.
Guests attending today were: Joerg Dittmer, a guest of Dick Lubman, Vivian Lai from Mountain View, and Nancy Mendelssohn.
Rita Yang commented that restrictions by the Chinese government have made it harder for her club to survive.

Dick quoted various noteworthy individuals and the one he will mention here is by Mother Teresa:  “Peace begins with a smile.”

Four New Millionaires were recognized by President Scott for contributing to the Presidents Club. (See Picture.)

Twana announced that we have a good response to  An American in Paris, our club’s social for October 7 at 2 pm.  Tickets are $100 each and checks should be made out to Jim Spangler.

Anniversaries this month: Debbie and Fred
                                                Twana and Bruce
                                                             Cindy and Dave.

Tori Atwell introduced our speaker, Max Hauser, who reminded those of us of eating establishment that are long gone: Andy’s, Saint James’s Infirmary, Linda’s, Chili and Sandwiches, 101 Club, and others.  The downtown area has about 110 restaurants and the turnover can be fast.  We are soon going to have our first “liquid nitrogen” ice cream parlor.  Max’s talk got many of us that have lived here for many years reminiscing about the “good old days.”
Max, Thank you for a very informative and interesting “talk” down memory lane.

Next week: Tony Siress: Mountain View Chamber of Commerce.

                        4Fer: Jim Spangler
