Member share: Jim S shared business is constantly changing to safely provide for clients. He announced he will semi-retire in June to Pismo Beach! General Club Announcements: *January and February meetings are virtual only. Stay safe everyone. *Hopes Corner service project for January 22nd at 8:45-10:45am has 4 members signed up. *Feb 15th will be youth speech contest, Scott seeks judges and tally helpers! Jack, Judy and Sanjay volunteered. We are set for our annual event! *Crabfeed: time of year Alan would be humoring us with his excitement and signups, however, Heather shared the Board decided to postpone hosting yet another year. Campaign kickoff planned for February. *Board meeting tomorrow at 5:30pm via Zoom. View 94039 or online: https://my.rotary.org/en/donate Upcoming Rotary Events: *Jennifer Jones: Rotary Int’l President D5170 reception on Sunday, Feb 27th at 7pm at Blackhawk Museum, registration is $150/pp. *Women In Rotary: D5170 celebrating Int’l Women’s Day with a event “Break the Bias” on sunday, March 13th 4-6pm at Rotary SJ Summit Center, 88 S. 4th St in SJ. Registration is live $50. *District 5170 Conference: April 22-24th Guest Speakers: Sanjay introduced Anthony Spaelti and Will Scott, of CivicBell. Will Scott served 10 years in the USMC as a Marine Special Operations Officer and a Marine Aviator. Will holds a B.A. in Mechanical Engineering from the United States Naval Academy and currently pursues an MBA at Stanford.Anthony Spaelti worked at McKinsey & Company for the past 4 years as a digital and public sector consultant. Anthony holds a B.A. in International Affairs from the University of St. Gallen, in Switzerland, and currently pursues an MBA at Stanford. Will and Anthony as their Stanford Business School project are solving a need to improve communication disconnect between constituents and public officials. CivivBell’s goal is a nonpartisan platform for citizens and gov officials. Civic engagement struggle is not new, many have tried to improve it and CivicBell is using technology of past and today to make a successful platform. What’s new with CivicBell is focus is for public officials to engage year-round, every year by maximizing trust and transparency; engage continuous feedback, i.e. share survey results; use AI; apply gamifications to engage all ages, incentivize engagers. Will and Anthony shared their platform interface with us, including security and verification. Q&A and feedback by members shared.
