Meeting Notes for September 3, 2019
 
The meeting start was delayed because the caterer was about an hour late for our meeting.  President Tom made adjustments which allowed the meeting to proceed with some minor changes.
 
President Tom introduced himself and the club, giving the theme for RI and for the club.
 
Scott led the club in the Pledge of Allegiance to the flag.
 
Roger was the 4’fer for today, conducting the greeter duties and giving us a thought.  His thought was about the progress the country has made in recent years in improving the health of persons that have contracted cancer.
 
Songmaster Phil led us in singing God Bless America.
 
President-Elect Paul conducted the recognition of six guests who attended the meeting.
 
Announcements:
 
Thanks to Roger Kao for bringing the delicious cakes to the meeting, and for being the Greeter today.
 
President’s Club:  Since we had six guests today, President Tom explained the President’s Club and its benefits.
 
Two Rotarians from Sunnyvale explained to us the golf tournament that their club is sponsoring.
 
President Tom introduced Sandy who introduced two prospective members that she was escorting.
 
There will be a Board meeting on November 21.
 
 Community Service:  Dave presented the program for club members that will be staffing a booth for tickets at the Art and Wine Festival, next weekend.  He gave the names of those participating, their times, and the duties.  This will be a good publicity event for our club.
 
President Tom thanked Fred Stored for his hosting of the recent social event for the club.
 
Speaker:
 
Michael Montegut provided the program for the meeting today.  His subject was “Working with Youth to overcome challenges”.  He gave a story of his experience speaking to teenagers from a  position of vulnerability.  He told of his experiences with students at Gunn High School, and elsewhere,  about the principles he has used to overcome challenges, disappointments, and embarrassments in high school, college, and work.
