Meeting Notes -- July 21, 2020
Meeting Notes
July 21, 2020

Here’s our news for this week:

Rotary News

President Paul welcomed everyone to today’s Mountain View Rotary Meeting.  The Rotary International theme for this year is “Rotary Opens Opportunities.”  Our Club theme is “We Open Opportunities For Everyone in the Community.”

From Heather:  If you have speaker ideas for the upcoming year, please sign up for a week(s) or month via this spreadsheet or contact me by email (hsten@me.com) or phone:  https://drive.google.com/file/d/1yWN7DTtzVo5i8Zk8lAeZFM8f6fZ0D5-b/view?usp=sharing

Our long time Honorary Member and Past Rotary International President M.A.T. Caparas recently passed away.  President Paul called for a moment of silence in his honor.  Many members offered tributes to M.A.T. as an outstanding person and great leader for Rotary.  He will be greatly missed.

Former Mountain View Rotarian Ernie Couture also passed away recently.  Ernie spent many years in the Club and was very active with the Ambassadorial Scholarship and Youth Exchange programs.  Our thoughts and condolences to his family.

Alan has been communicating with Cindy Cole and Dave has recently spent some time at El Camino Hospital, but he is back home now.  Cards, emails and texts are much appreciated.

Community Services Agency will be hosting a virtual event. “Empty Glasses 2020” on August 7th from 4:30 to 6:00 pm. You can learn more details about the event on the CSA website at www.csacares. Org.

If anyone knows of any of our members in distress or that need anything, please let President Tom or one of the Board Members know.  We want to make sure everyone knows that we are here to take care of each other.

Speaker

Heather introduced our speaker today, Dennis Young, who is the Co-Publisher and Owner of the Los Altos Town Crier.  Dennis is very active in our local community and he is a Past President of the Los Altos Rotary Club.

The Los Altos Town Crier was first published in 1947 and the local newspaper has not missed a Wednesday edition in seventy-three years.  The paper focuses on customer service.  It is a part of our community and strives to remain visible and available.  Its goals include fairness, balance, and accuracy.  It provides a forum for all community views.

The Town Crier gives the community local stories that would not be covered otherwise.  Going forward, the paper will continue to print its news and will not miss an issue.  It will also work to improve its on-line profile.

Other Stuff

Bert shared a couple of photos from his archives

I’m sure Tom would agree with me that some folks just get better with time….

A few smiles from Phil that fit the times:

And who might this incredibly beautiful young lady be?

Remember, send me some stuff so we can make this interesting and keep it going. And don’t forget the photos. Send it to bbarsi@msn.com.  And take good care of yourselves.
